The Washington Post Company Reports 2010 and Fourth Quarter Earnings

The Washington Post Company (NYSE: WPO) today reported net income available for common shares of $277.2 million ($31.04 per share) for the fiscal year ended January 2, 2011, up from net income available for common shares of $91.8 million ($9.78 per share) for the fiscal year ended January 3, 2010. Net income includes $28.8 million ($3.22 per share) and $45.1 million ($4.80 per share) in losses from discontinued operations for fiscal year 2010 and 2009, respectively.

Gannett Co., Inc. Announces Two Board Retirements; Gannett Board Elects New Director

Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) announced today that Donna E. Shalala and Karen Hastie Williams plan to retire from the company’s Board of Directors this year. The company also announced that John E. News America Incorporated (“News America”), a subsidiary of News Corporation, announced today the total consideration offered to be paid in its previously announced cash tender offer (the “Offer”) for any and all of its outstanding 9 ¼ % Senior Debentures due February 1, 2013 (the “Securities”).
