Finishing & Screen Printing

KAMA AutoRegister successfully launched

Thursday 18. April 2013 - Pioneering solution for finishing digital print with highest register precision

Cutting, creasing and finishing with highest accuracy in digital printing – made possible by the KAMA AutoRegister for the versatile ProCut die cutters. Presented by the Dresden-based machine manufacturer at the Drupa, this ground-breaking solution was very well received in the market.
In contrast to conventional postpress machines, which align the sheet along the sheet edges, the AutoRegister positions each sheet individually based on the actual print image. A camera detects small deviations in the position of the print image (identified by a register mark) relative to the sheet edges, and servo motors correct the sheet position and move the sheet into the gripper with an accuracy of ± 0.1 mm. Cuts, creases and finishing effects can now be applied very precisely.
New: AutoRegister for the half-size format (B2)
“With our new AutoRegister for ProCut die cutters we have hit the mark,” says KAMA Managing Director Marcus Tralau. “It is our fastest-ever product launch.” KAMA originally developed the AutoRegister for its ProCut 53, i.e. for the common format of 530×400 mm. The innovative solution for highly accurate digital print finishing convinced customers in practice in no time. “This is why we have put much effort into adapting it to other sheet sizes. We can now offer the AutoRegister for our ProCut 76 half-format cutters,” says Tralau. “The prototype was already sold even before it left the assembly line.” Meanwhile, numerous ProCut machines with the AutoRegister have been installed – in Germany, Eastern Europe and Asia, both in basic die cutters and in finishing die cutters with hot foil stamping system.
Value added for every type of sheet: conventional, digital or cut after printing
Many customers integrate the system into their digital work-flow and get more valued added in-house thanks to new finishing options. Because the high-quality results open up new business opportunities in digital sheet-fed printing: from artfully finished commercial prints to folding carton packaging in small to medium runs.
Sheets which are cut after printing can now also be finished with the same high registration accuracy. This can mean significant cost savings in printing, when the material utilisation is optimised with multiple blanks per sheet. The AutoRegister expands the wide range of applications of the ProCut machines still further and makes the versatile finishing die cutters fit for the growing digital printing market.
