The Houston Chronicle Media Group announced today that veteran operations executive Michael H. Sacks will join the company as vice president of operations. In this newly created role, Sacks, reporting to the publisher, will manage day-to-day processes and execution of operations from prepress through transportation.
Sacks joins the Chronicle from the Tribune Company, where he has served since 2006, most recently as VP of operations. There he oversaw the organization’s newspaper production as well as purchasing, real estate holdings, capital projects and facilities.
“Mike is a seasoned operations pro, and his experience planning and executing cross-departmental projects and process changes aligns perfectly with the strategic leadership needs of our production unit,” Chronicle publisher Tom Stephenson said. “His go-to style and track record of success will help us ensure we meet our ultimate goal: to efficiently provide a timely, high-quality product each day to our 1.6 million readers and advertising partners.”
Sacks, a certified Six-Sigma Green Belt and a nationally recognized expert in newspaper process improvement, was named one of Presstime Magazine’s “20 Under 40.” He began his career in circulation at the Sun-Sentinel and later moved into marketing, production management and strategic planning. He held the position of VP of operations at The Daily Press and Newsday before joining Tribune as a VP of advertising development and business optimization. He holds a bachelor’s of finance from Florida Atlantic University.
