InkSure Introduces FDA Approved High Security Taggants for Direct Food Contact

Friday 26. October 2012 - InkSure Technologies Inc., the market leader in machine-readable anti-counterfeiting solutions, is pleased to announce the introduction of high security taggants approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for direct food contact to the company's anti-counterfeiting product line. Taggants, machine-readable chemical markers, are a mature and proven technology used for brand protection and anti-counterfeiting by brand owners and governments.

The FDA approved taggants are ideal for protecting prescription and non-prescription drugs, expensive food items and specialty beverages as well as other commonly counterfeited consumables. They can be incorporated into blister packaging, induction seals on bottles, the inside of shrink wraps, foil seals and other packaging materials that come into direct contact with food and pharmaceuticals.
InkSure’s FDA approved taggants have already been used in a large-scale project protecting alcohol and tobacco products with excellent results. Over the last four years, the organization using InkSure’s taggants estimates that more than $400 million in additional revenues were recovered due to the ability of inspectors to easily identify counterfeit items in the supply chain. The FDA approved taggant solution has also kept potentially harmful counterfeit products from being used by consumers.
“It is very important to protect the public from counterfeited pharmaceuticals and food products. But because of safety concerns, the protection available for these items is usually restricted to overt solutions which provide limited protection. We are pleased to offer high security machine-readable taggants which can directly protect consumables at an item-level. The FDA approved taggants we offer are of the same level of security used in anti-counterfeiting programs for currencies, banknotes, electronics and other high-value items,” said Tal Gilat, president & CEO of InkSure.
