Tuesday 25. September 2012 - Color expert Rohit Patil available to answer user questions
ONYX Graphics at SGIA in booth 2779
ONYX Graphics, Inc. is inviting attendees to the Specialty Graphic and Imaging Association (SGIA) annual exhibition to “Stump the Color Scientist.” Rohit Patil, ONYX Graphics Color Scientist, will be on hand to answer any questions – from wide format workflow to ICC profile generation and various color management topics in-between – posed by visitors. He will be in the ONYX Graphics booth 2779 at the SGIA exhibition, October 18-20, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Rohit’s interests lie in the area of color management and digital color imaging, especially researching improvements to profiling workflows, device modeling, tone mapping and gamut mapping algorithms. “When consulting with Rohit on ICC profiling issues, he was able to get to the ‘fine grain’ knowledge level that I needed,” said Steve Turnbull, Senior Manager, Color Management Services for ARC[1], a leading provider of specialized document solutions to businesses of all types with emphasis in the commercial reprographics industry. “He knows the subject matter more thoroughly than anyone I know. While color theory can be a dense subject, Rohit explained everything in clear and concise terms that were easy to understand and – more importantly – easy to implement in our operation.”
The types of questions anticipated include:
— How can I match colors across printers / media?
— How do I create a profile that saves ink, or make sure grays do not have
a color cast under different lighting?
— How do I profile backlit media?
— Why do I need a color measurement device for profiling?
— What is the difference between input and output ICC profiles?
— Which rendering intent do I select when printing? And what does black
point compensation offer me?
SGIA attendees are encouraged to bring their most challenging color management questions to the ONYX Graphics booth to see if they can “Stump the Color Scientist.” He will be available during the following times:
— Thursday, October 18: 10:30 am to 12:00 pm and 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm
— Friday, October 19: 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm
— Saturday, October 20: 10:30 am to 12:00pm
SGIA Color Management Zone
Color management is a primary concern of wide format print service providers as evidenced by the creation of a dedicated new Color Management Zone[2] at SGIA. Rohit will be presenting “Simply Beautiful Color in Just a Few Steps,” in the Color Management Zone on Friday, October 19 from 10:00-11:00 am, where he will help demystify the color profiling process with a show-and-tell presentation about how to quickly and easily create high quality color profiles.
