Minister of Commerce and Industry visits OCTAL

Thursday 05. May 2011 - OCTAL Petrochemicals, the region’s largest PET manufacturer, recently hosted the minister of Commerce and Industry, His Excellency Sheikh Saad Mohamed Al Saadi, at its plant in the Salalah Free Zone.

The minister was given a guided tour of OCTAL’s state-of-the-art PET plant and its recently launched packaging subsidiary, CrystalPack. OCTAL Managing Director, Nicholas P. Barakat and other senior management from the company gave presentations on the business and Omanization plans.
In just five years, OCTAL has become a global leader in PET packaging, with 400,000 MT of integrated PET manufacturing capacity. Phase two of the complex, which will be commissioned from June 2012, will add an additional 527,000 MT of production, and push the company’s exports to $1.5 billion making it one of the largest foreign exchange earners for the Sultanate.
OCTAL exports PET resin and sheet worldwide to more than 60 customers, in over 40 countries, including major food and consumer brands in the Middle East, Europe and United States of America. Currently at 30% Omanization, OCTAL announced plans to employ an additional 100 Omani nationals by 2012.
