Print Art Set to Recycle 500 Tons of Paper in 2011
Tuesday 08. February 2011 - Company taking recycling to a whole new level with help from Greenstar
We’re obsessed with running “green”. We’ve slimmed down the operation with aggressive quality control measures. We’re using low-VOC vegetable based ink to go with our Forest Stewardship Council sustainability certification through the Rainforest Alliance.
But recently we crunched some numbers and realized that we could do even better in paper recycling. So we scoured around for the best in the business and found Greenstar, one of the world’s most innovative high-volume recyclers.
With Greenstar we’ll be able to increase the amount of paper we recycle by up to 30 percent. And when you print on as much paper as we do, it really adds up.
All totaled, we’re going to keep approx. 500 tons of paper out of landfills each year!
What’s 500 tons of recycled paper mean to the environment? The answers might surprise you:
8,500 fewer trees harvested
3.4 million gallons of water available for another purpose
More than 230,000 gallons of oil will be saved from manufacturing and transportation
It will keep approximately 290,000 pounds of pollution
out of the air
It will save over 500 cubic yards of landfill space
It’s the equivalent of nearly 2 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
And that’s just one years worth!
Then, you have to ask yourself even more questions. Like what’s the impact of saving 230,000 gallons of oil? A few million gallons of water? Or 8,500 trees? It’s a big ripple effect. Toss a pebble into a pond and the ripples travel from one end to the other.
The recycling, the quality measures and certifications are all part of an overall commitment to being as sustainable as possible. But it’s more than certification – it’s dedication. The whole point is understanding that everything we do is connected to everything else.
The best part is that we’re able to reach these goals because of you, the customer. Every job we print gets us a step closer. Your valued business along with some help from our friends at Greenstar allows us all to make a difference in something bigger. That bigger thing is the planet we call home.
