viscom tec.10 conference: Changes in Communication through Visual Technologies

Tuesday 12. October 2010 - From iPhone apps to video games and 3D applications to the needs of an aging society: the speakers at the viscom tec.10 conference, to be held on 3 November 2010 in Frankfurt, take a 360° view at future visual communication technologies and the challenges they pose.

Here all discussions focus on the consumer and his media use and buying behaviour. In its lectures, the viscom tec.10 conference follows him through the process of deciding on a product or service. The conference concentrates on the possibilities of visual communication for supporting the consumer on this path – from using media at his own home to contact with media in public areas through to the point of sale. The effect of social and technological developments on patterns of media use among target groups will also be discussed.
Panel 1 – Future Scenarios in visual communication
To respond to the needs of an aging society while at the same time not losing sight of young people – this is the theme of the speakers at the first panel “Future scenarios in visual communication”. Whereas Andrea Ferger-Heiter, Project Manager Demography with GALERIA Kaufhof GmbH, will point out ways for the retail sector of responding to these challenges, Ralf Bauer, Head of Market and Media Research with the Egmont Ehapa Verlag, deals with the children’s patterns of consumption and media use. A central question in this context is also the role of video games and their influence on the visual perception of the players, which will be treated by Bjoern Bartholdy, Head of the Game Lab – Institute for Game Development & Research of Cologne University of Applied Science. Professor Jussi Ängeslevä from Finland, Visiting Professor at the Berlin University of the Arts and Art Director with the Berlin new media design studio ART+COM will talk about innovative pathways in spatial media experience.
Panel 2 – Visual communication out of home, mobile, digital, social
Posters, city lights and display windows send static messages, whereas digital signage offers the possibility to also focus moving messages at particular target groups. Mobile applications promise individuality and interactivity – new possibilities of visual communication that have also become possible thanks to the development of iPhones and iPads. The speaker on this subject is Horace Dediu of Asymco. The Finish app designer is a long-time expert and much sought-after analyst of the development of the mobile communications market. Speakers on digital signage topics are Paul Flanigan of Experiate from the USA and Karsten Schackinger-Solaas of comtech experience a/s who are nominated for the Digital Signage Best Practice Award with their digital signage application for Diesel. For this campaign, print, out of home, digital out of home, MMS, in-store and personal promotion were combined.
Panel 3 – Service vs. Self or It is more blessed to give than to receive!
A buying experience offering personal benefit, emotionality, a touch of humour and excellent service is the way to catch consumers. These experiences are remembered and become an indispensable element of a successful sales strategy. But how can we provide such an experience to the consumer in the retail sector? Four experts offer food for thought on this question at viscom tec.10. Among them are “digital signage celebrity” Jason Goldberg of Retailgeek Consulting LLC, Julian Koschwitz of Fabrica (Benetton), Benjamin Thym of checkitmobile GmbH and Pierce Fawkes/Jeff Weiner of PSFK.com.
Panel 4 – Touch it, feel it, get it: technology for visual communication
Visual communication to touch and experience: Thanks to single, dual or multitouch applications data can be retrieved with the touch of a finger. Interaction between humans and computers is the topic presented by Professor Wolfgang Henseler of SENSORY-MINDS GMBH in his talk “Beyond apps”. MOJECT founder David Slocombe will show a solution merging the pico projector and a mobile phone. Beat Kronenberg of 3D Impact Media, on the other hand, will give an insight into the production of 3D content for digital signage. Another guest at the viscom tec. 10 conference is Dr. Michael Klein of the INM-Institute for New Media.
Keynote – Customer focused experiences: concepts, strategies and pitfalls
An advertising personality opens the viscom tec.10 conference: In his keynote address Marcell D’Avis, Head of the Customer Satisfaction Department at 1&1 Internet AG, goes beyond his company’s promotional strategy. After all he does not only represent for customer service to the outside but has been taking the message to all 1&1 departments for years. At viscom tec.10 Marcell D’Avis talks about ways of including every employee in quality assurance at an early stage. In this he will be supported by Claire Scollar who, in her capacity as Managing Director of I.E.P. GmbH, is assisting 1&1 with extensive coaching and training activities.
