Arctic Paper supplies the paper for Tony Blair’s book

Tuesday 14. September 2010 - Since its launch on the 1st September, Tony Blair’s autobiography ‘A Journey’ has already been reprinted 5 times by publisher Hutchinson, part of The Random House Group book publishing.

Pamo Extra v15 65gsm paper, supplied and manufactured by Arctic Paper was chosen for both the paper and hard back versions of the book. Over 350 tonnes in total have been used since the 1st of September, with further reprints commissioned. Printed by Clays Printers, this autobiography already promises to be one of the most popular titles published by the Random Group.

Neil Bradford, Divisional Production Director for Hutchinson explained why the choice of Pamo paper has been so critical to the success and speedy turnaround of the title. “The choice of paper was crucial; we required a grade with exceptional quality combined with a low bulk to grammage ratio. With over 700 pages the book needed to be appealing in terms of its size and weight and not intimidating because of its bulk. We opted for Pamo Extra from Arctic Paper because this grade has an excellent printing surface, with good opacity and comparatively low bulk. It is a consistent quality which we regularly specify for our premium titles”.

Neil went on to explain “however, one of the biggest challenges we faced was finding a paper supplier who could guarantee delivery to fulfil our requirements for the reprints. Arctic Paper’s response has been excellent with them providing us with 150 tonne makings within 5 working days from order. This quick response is essential to us when a book takes-off like this and copies are going out of the door as fast as we can produce them.

The Pamo book paper range consists of uncoated, wood-containing papers in a wide range of grammages and bulks; it is ideal for publishing requirements. All Pamo products are FSC and PEFC certified.
