MANROLAND USERS DOMINATE UK NEWSPAPER AWARDS AGAIN IN 2010
Wednesday 12. May 2010 - The 2010 Newspaper Awards, held on 21st April at the London Hilton, Park Lane was once again a hugely successful night for manroland users with no less than 10 awards handed out to manroland web press customers and their newspapers.
The coveted Newspaper Printer of the Year Award went to manroland customer, Newsprinters Knowsley, for the second consecutive year for its outstanding work on the Financial Times, The Times and The Sunday Telegraph. Sister title, the Daily Telegraph picked up the equally-prestigious National Newspaper of the Year Award.
manroland customers, the Guardian Print Centre, Weit am Sonntag in Germany and Morton Print also had their chance to shine at the London Hilton, receiving Awards in the Most Outstanding Use of Colour, Newspapers; International Newspaper of the Year and Most Outstanding Use of Colour, Niche categories respectively.
The 12 expert judges, drawn from across the industry, were especially impressed by Newsprinters Knowsleys work on the Financial Times which, according to Gary Cullum, editor and publisher of the Production Journal, “stood out in this winning portfolio and was commended for its consistent quality and full broadsheet colour reproduction on large solid panels.” Judges also commented on the fantastic colour registration shown in the bold choice of advertising that “really hits you in the eye in terms of quality.”
Newsprinters Knowsley, which was also highly-commended in other categories, uses a COLORMAN XXL, a triple-width, 25 satellite-tower press with five 4:7:7 folders and automatic reel handling. The press can manage up to 144 pages of broadsheet paper.
