ProImage NewsWay Automates Pre-Press Production for the Press-Register
Monday 22. March 2010 - Integrates several pre-press systems into a single end-to-end workflow solution
To further increase efficiency Press-Register, Mobile, Alabama, has installed browser-based ProImage NewsWay workflow automation software.
The software will integrate the Press-Registers several pre-press systems into one single end-to-end workflow solution. This will improve throughput, decrease errors and lower its cost of production.
At the same time the newspaper has installed ProImage OnColor ECO ink optimization software. This reduces the use of colour inks by automatically analyzing PDF files and intelligently applying gray component replacement (GCR). According to ProImage, ink cost saving can be as much as 25% with the added benefits of improvement in colour image quality, less rub-off, and a reduced carbon footprint.
At the Press-Register NewsWay creates an edition plan, accepts files from a Harris editorial and Mactive advertising system, assembles pages according to the edition plan, and then routes pages to the correct folder on a OneVision system for preflighting. Once pages are distilled the PDF pages are automatically routed to ProImages ECO ink optimization system before being output to two new Harlequin RIPs.
Once plates are approved they are automatically routed to one of two CTP devices that NewsWay also load balances. Barcodes are burned onto the plate image for sorting along with text on the bend of the plate for easy plate identification.
In addition once the plates are approved NewsWay routes the PDF pages to an e-tearsheet system and an archiving system, automating tasks that were previously undertaken manually. The system also calculates ink presets and transmits them to the Press-Registers PECOM press control system.
