Satiz Turns to SDL to Create and Publish DITA-based Automotive Manuals

Thursday 14. January 2010 - Component Content Management and publishing technologies significantly increase value

SDL, the leader in Global Information Management (GIM) solutions, today announced it has been chosen by Italian-based Satiz, for managing and publishing automotive manuals in DITA, the XML standard for technical writing. Satiz is adopting SDL Structured Content Technologies to automate the process and reduce the cost of delivering multi-formatted information to its global customers, particularly in the automotive industry.

Satiz produces glove box manuals for 24 vehicle models in 12 languages for several automotive groups including FIAT, Iveco, CNH and Yamaha. In an increasingly competitive market, Satiz identified and executed a business strategy to move upstream and offer value-added services by supporting a company’s complete content lifecycle. Already a leading print and publishing vendor, the addition of SDL Structured Content Technologies enables Satiz to offer an even richer and more valuable array of services, including high-quality content creation and multi-channel content delivery, which further enhance Satiz’ expert status with its customers’ global products.

To achieve this strategy, Satiz looked for an end-to-end content management solution and found the best fit with SDL’s Structured Content Technologies division. For the management of DITA content, Satiz is deploying SDLTrisoft – a DITA Component Content Management system. Adopting DITA with a Component Content Management system enables Satiz to support the group’s manual processes with an automated system that facilitates content reuse, increasing the efficiency of creating and translating contents. Satiz also had the need for automating high-end print publishing for glove box manuals and selected SDL XPP, an automated high-production publishing system for managing perfectly formatted, complex printing requirements.

To ensure consistency in writing style and terminology, as well as an improvement in translation quality, Satiz also chose to implement SDL Global Authoring Management System. The innovative technology puts quality control directly in the hands of Satiz’ authors and editors, which improves the productivity of the authoring process and improves the quality of Satiz’ documentation. The combination of global authoring, Component Content Management and high-volume printing allows Satiz to achieve an efficient end-to-end global content lifecycle solution for its automotive customers.

“Choosing SDL Structured Content Technologies was a matter of competitive positioning for Satiz,” said Paolo Greguol, general manager, Satiz. “We are determined to be the leader in the industries we serve while remaining cost competitive. Our new structured content and publishing solution will drastically improve quality and throughput and greatly facilitate content reuse, which in turn boasts results and improves overall efficiency,” Greguol said.

“Satiz conducted a rigorous evaluation to select the tools that best aligned with its strategic business development goals,” said Lou Iuppa, vice president, business development, SDL Structured Content Technologies division. “The company knew exactly what it needed and found the best fit with SDL. We are very pleased to have been selected by such a strategic, growth-oriented company and I’m sure the industry will be hearing about even more services and capabilities that are the result of the new technology partnership Satiz has formed with SDL,” Iuppa said.
