Ricoh Canada Earns Sustainability Star from Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic WinterGames (VANOC)
Monday 23. November 2009 - Ricoh Canada Inc., the leading provider of digital office equipment, and an Official Supporter of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, today announced that it has received VANOC's Sustainability Star award.
The Sustainability Star program, created by the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) is a vehicle designed to recognize the innovative efforts VANOC and its many partners and sponsors are taking to be sustainable.
Ricoh was awarded the Sustainability Star in response to the company’s efforts to reduce paper and energy consumption by providing VANOC with tight control over their output devices. By partnering with Print Audit and the PCS Director application, Ricoh has been able to significantly reduce and measure both output (paper), and energy. In addition, @Remote and standard defaults on Ricoh devices such as auto Duplex, Timed Shut Down & Start Up (5 minutes prior to business day) and Draft Mode further enhance the savings potential. Ricoh’s Quick Start Up (QSU) technology makes it possible for machines to go into energy-saving sleep mode, yet still produce the first copy in under 15 seconds. The result is reduced energy consumption and reduced CO2 emissions to less than 6 lbs per week.
The technology introduced by Ricoh (including pre-Games, Olympic and Paralympic Games deployments), establishes new practices for reporting at Olympic Games competitions. The technology not only provides for continuous and real time monitoring of output, but importantly will create a base-line for output control for future Games. These innovations required collaboration from partners like Print Audit (for PCS Director), and EFI (for Digital StoreFront – electronic job submission) and have provided a methodology to control the expected 17,000,000 imprints that will be made from pre-Games, through to the significant ramp up of Games time.
As Ricoh continues to ramp up its support for the 2010 Winter Games, the company will continue to look for new and innovative ways to further enhance the Organizing Committee’s vision of becoming “the most green Olympic Games ever.”
