Bottle Redesign Gives Carlube A Modern Makeover

RPC UKSC (UK Stock Containers) has designed an eye-catching new engine oil bottle to distinguish the premium nature of Tetrosyl’s Carlube brand from competitor products.

Thursday 10. September 2009 - RPC UKSC (UK Stock Containers) has designed an eye-catching new engine oil bottle to distinguish the premium nature of Tetrosyl’s Carlube brand from competitor products.

As the largest manufacturer of car care products in the UK, Tetrosyl supplies solutions both under its own brands and private label ranges in supermarkets and automotive outlets. The company has used a standard 5 litre bottle from RPC’s Raunds site for several years, which is still valued highly by Tetrosyl.

“The bottle is durable, practical and attractive, and has proved its popularity with consumers over the years across many of our products,” confirms Simon Howorth, Tetrosyl’s Marketing Manager. “In addition, RPC’s excellent service is ideal for high volumes in just-in-time delivery.”

It is the popularity of the bottle – which is also used by other manufacturers – that has prompted Tetrosyl’s commission of a redesigned bottle to differentiate Carlube from rival brands. “As our premium brand, we wanted to refresh Carlube’s image by giving the bottle a modern makeover while still being recognisable to retailers and consumers,” Howorth explains.

Tetrosyl’s designers suggested initial concepts from which RPC generated a workable pack that strikes a delicate balance between style and practicality. While the redesign had to stand out on-shelf, it maintains the same footprint, height and cap placement as the existing bottle, to ensure optimum compatibility for filling and logistics.

The new bottle offers a more compact, contemporary design, with the squarer handle shape complemented with ergonomic finger grips. The labelling area has also been made smaller, allowing the familiar ‘parallel ridges’ motif that appeared on the old label to be recreated on-pack for a tactile effect.

Blow moulded by RPC in HDPE, the bottle is supplied in black and silver versions to suit Carlube’s branding requirements.
