Alwan Color Expertise Paves the Way to Process Standard Offset Adoption in the US by setting up PSO Training Program
Thursday 27. August 2009 - Alwan Color Expertise, the graphic industry's leading color standardization company, is paving the way for the adoption of Process Standard Offset (PSO) in the US by launching a new training initiative. The company is running a training program that will help printers in the region achieve PSO accreditation. Accredited print houses typically witness increased efficiency, quality, profitability and sustainability.
Since its inception in 1997, Alwan has dedicated its efforts to boosting quality and profit via color management and standardization. The company has developed award-winning technologies and software, plus it provides industry-respected training and holds seminars and conferences worldwide.
Alwan was spurred into launching the US initiative following the success of the companys PSO / ISO training programs in Europe, which led to many print houses in the region securing various accreditations and an improvement in industry standards. The program will commence after Print 09, where the company is showcasing a number of breakthrough standardization solutions.
“While many US print houses recognize the merits of the G7 method for proof and press, theres an increasing awareness that PSO provides a comprehensive methodology,” says Elie Khoury, founder and CEO of Alwan Color Expertise. “It defines all aspects of a printers workflow, ensuring best practice and optimal results. Printers that become PSO compliant add tangible value to their business. By promoting the adoption of PSO methodology in the US, we believe that the industry will take a significant step closer towards common standards and practices.”
Dave Hunter, Alwans representative in the US and a leading expert on G7, owning a one-man record of over 100 installations, adds: “PSO adoption and compliancy is a major differentiator. Understanding the merit of the G7 process is critical for the success of PSO. The G7 press process is a subset of what PSO is all about in that PSO covers Preflight, Proof, Plate and G7 press characteristics. Alwan products play a critical role in the production process, and help printers achieve best practice and deliver compliant products. Consultants that attend Alwans PSO training will significantly improve their processes and become far more attractive to existing and potential customers.”
Training details
The Alwan PSO training program gives attendees an overview of PSO requirements in accordance with BVDM(1) PSO guidelines, and helps prepare consultants and businesses for PSO implementation.
Topics discussed at the training sessions range from color handling, proofing, print production, and standardization to personnel organization and establishing a high-quality infrastructure.
The training will be delivered by Elie Khoury, founder and CEO of Alwan, and
Supree Thongpetch, founder and CEO of Colour Doctor. Both are members of KEE Consultants, an international network of standardization experts that is accredited by Fogra and Ugra as PSO experts and partners. Khoury and Thongpetch both have a track record of PSO-certified sites in Europe and Asia.
Delivered with the support of BVDM, the first training session will be available to Alwan dealers and their customers, while subsequent sessions starting in late 2009 will be open to others.
The Wisconsin-based Institute for Graphics and Imaging (IGI), an education and training organization funded by and dedicated to advancing standards in the printing and graphic arts industry, is the site for the first training session. IGI is supported by a vast network of industry suppliers, printers, publishers and government agencies, and operates on the Waukesha County Technical College campus in suburban Milwaukee.
