Wins six awards, including best website.

The Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association (ONPA) has recognized the Register-Guard, a daily newspaper and website publisher in Eugene, Oregon, USA, with six first-place awards in its 2009 Better Newspaper Contest. The awards include a win for best website.

The technology behind the Register-Guard’s winning website site is DTI ContentPublisher.

“The Register-Guard’s first-place ‘ONPA Best Web Site’ award represents the collaboration of our entire staff, from reporters who start a Web story with a keystroke to our copy editors who create the site in real-time during the course of their work day,” said Carl Davaz, deputy managing editor, Register-Guard. “The unified DTI ContentPublisher system makes our Web/print workflow seamless.” The Register-Guard wins also include first-place awards for graphics and spot news photography as well as several second and third-
place awards.

“We couldn’t have done it without the DTI software,” added Mickey Hulse, Web content editor, Register-Guard.

Steve Nilan, vice president, marketing, DTI, said: “We are thrilled to see the Register-Guard team recognized for their creative Web efforts in winning these awards. They have a well-earned reputation as Web publishing innovators who exploit the software power of DTI ContentPublisher and DTI Lightning.”

DTI ContentPublisher provides the Register-Guard with unlimited sharing of information and digital assets throughout their enterprise. This enables a totally integrated newsroom, improves efficiencies, and builds a collaborative publishing environment. It facilitates Web and print publishing from a single high-performance post-relational database which, amongst its many advantages, includes eliminating the need for duplicate Web and print content.

ONPA Better Newspaper entries, in 27 categories, were placed in six circulation groups. The Register-Guard was judged in the group that included the state’s largest newspapers.
