Cox Hosts Media Career Camp with An Achievable Dream School on July 30

Wednesday 22. July 2009 - Youth ages 10 to 15 will be part of this interactive learning experience

Cox Communications is partnering with An Achievable Dream School to host a media career camp. An Achievable Dream is a nonprofit, year-round, extended day public school, which is focused on youth from urban, inner-city areas who face great educational challenges due to their socio-economic conditions.

Cox will hold special activities on July 30 to provide youth with information regarding careers in the telecommunications industry. Subject matter reviewed will include overviews of the marketing, production, and technical operations areas.

“The telecommunications industry has many opportunities that young people rarely consider. Yes, there are opportunities in front of and behind the camera, but there are many, many other opportunities as well. We want to expose our region’s youth to the career options they have right here in their own region,” said Leigh Woisard, Cox Vice President Government and Public Affairs.

An Achievable Dream School’s Director of Public Relations and Special Events Kelly Alvord added, “Through Cox’s support of this media camp, An Achievable Dream can continue fulfilling its mission to challenge and enable our students to realize their dreams. Our partnership also demonstrates the power to change the lives of youth through the collaboration of public and private institutions.”

This is Cox’s second year of sponsoring the Media Camp and Cox’s second camp this year. The first camp was held with the Urban League of Hampton Roads.
