Acquire Media Introduces Innovative Taxonomy Products at SLA 2009
Tuesday 16. June 2009 - Top digital content provider set to unveil Acquire Media Metadata Enhancer; partners with Access Innovations to support corporate and government information specialists
In an effort to improve its product offerings for corporate and government researchers, Acquire Media today announced at the Special Libraries 2009 Annual Conference & INFO-EXPO that it has introduced a new taxonomy product.
Known as Acquire Media Metadata Enhancer (ACME(TM)), the offering will be available across all of Acquire Media’s products and services and allow users to obtain highly relevant results supporting their information. ACME dramatically enhances the search effectiveness of knowledge workers.
“Our product line has been significantly bolstered with the new ACME offering,” said Lawrence C. Rafsky, CEO of Acquire Media. “This product will fundamentally improve how professionals search for relevant information using our tools.”
ACME will be embedded in Acquire Media’s NewsEdge suite of products as well as in its Syndication Suite systems. Acquire Media’s development of the ACME program was made possible through its longstanding partnership with Access Innovations, a company that offers an extensive line of information management and database construction products and services for academic institutions, government agencies and other industries.
“We looked to Access Innovations to help us build a single sophisticated taxonomy for Acquire Media,” added Rafsky. “The results are outstanding and will benefit clients for years to come.”
Acquire Media (Booth no. 829) and Access Innovations (Booth no. 827) will showcase its range of services to the professional librarian community at SLA 2009, Rafsky noted.
“Acquire Media clearly has advanced its offerings with this new development,” said Marjorie Hlava, president of Access Innovations. “We’re confident that ACME will let Acquire Media and its users adapt to a changing business landscape easily and efficiently.”
Jon Campbell, vice president of Knowledge Management at Acquire Media, said the new system has many benefits.
“This specific classification is very simple yet enables even the most sophisticated research professionals to build highly complex searches,” said Campbell. “Unlike other taxonomies that try to cover countless topics for multiple users, our approach allows users to define and refine the scope of their searches using straightforward building blocks.”
Keynote speaker at SLA 2009 is Colin Powell, former secretary of state, who will speak at the opening session and awards presentation. News veteran Judy Woodruff will moderate this closing session, with panelists Robyn Meredith, Neil deGrasse Tyson and John Patrick sharing their insights on the future in their fields and the outlook for both information and information professionals.
Acquire Media, which purchased NewsEdge from Thomson Corporation in July 2007 and integrated operations in November 2007, has boosted revenues significantly and has 100 employees spread over five offices worldwide. Since the acquisition, Acquire Media has invested heavily in re-engineering the NewsEdge product line. This solidifies Acquire Media’s position in the real-time scrolling news space and re-establishes its brand in the corporate/web site market.
Formed in 2001, Acquire Media has a number of marquee clients, including PR Newswire, Market News International, Canwest Global Communications, and NASDAQ.
