SFGate.com Introduces “In Alameda” Site That Offers Community-Level News

Friday 12. June 2009 - SFGate.com, the Bay Area's leading online news and information source, has launched "In Alameda," a hyperlocal site that covers community-level news from the Bay Area city.

The “In Alameda” site includes neighborhood news from local Alameda bloggers, with updates throughout the day. In addition, the site will feature relevant, local headlines, including local government, local crime and local real estate, pulled from a variety of news sources, including the San Francisco Chronicle. News from local schools, including classroom activities and sporting events, will also be prominently featured. These stories will be mapped to give an even more local feel to the community-level coverage.
“In Alameda” will also feature searchable databases for real estate, restaurant reviews, events, community announcements and other information specific to the Alameda community.
Users will be able to interact with the site, and each other, by posting reports of potholes, broken streetlights, graffiti and other community-specific information designed to give readers up-to-the-minute news and information. Alameda residents will also have the opportunity to start their own blog, contribute comments and submit photos.
“In Alameda is the first of several community-based sites that will be featured on SFGate.com,” said Michele Slack, vice president of digital media. “The site is intended to aggregate neighborhood-level news into one convenient location and to give Alameda residents the opportunity to not only read what’s going on in their community, but to help shape important decisions through participation in our interactive features.”
