Konica Minolta Sensing Americas Announces Specialty Food Color Indexes at IFT 2009
Wednesday 03. June 2009 - Konica Minolta Sensing Americas, Inc. (KMSA), the worldwide leader in the industrial measurement of color, light and shape, announces the addition of a CR-400/410 specialty colorimeter for the food industry that includes KMSA's newly developed Food Color Indexing Technology or FCIT.
Food Color Indexing Technology (FCIT) is designed to save time and cut costs by providing the user with only information pertinent to their application. An index simplifies color readings by presenting the user with one number to base a decision on instead of a multitude of data to sort through. “FCIT’s also replace visual standards used in various food applications by taking the subjectivity out of the people doing the observing; Thus providing an instantaneous evaluation of the sample that is accurate measurement after measurement,” said Randy Klimek, New Product Project Manager for Konica Minolta Sensing Americas.
KMSA has pioneered the development of many indexes that are now being offered as a complete turnkey solution to food manufacturers. FCIT’s utilize Konica Minolta’s CR-400/410 colorimeter which has been globally accepted as the standard in a wide range of industries including food.
At the 2009 IFT Food Expo in Anaheim California KMSA will be exhibiting at booth #3404 and launching their 4 new indexes. The following index packages will be shown:
CR-410T Tomato Package
The CR-410T is USDA approved and brings portability, outstanding measurement repeatability and excellent inter instrument agreement. Most other instruments, approved to score tomato
products, are much larger, bulky, costly and not in a portable handheld configuration.
The CR-410T contains the specific indices formulas, needed to generate a score or grade for tomato sauce, tomato paste, tomato juice and tomato ketchup (catsup).
CR-410FF French Fry Package
The CR-410FF is a precise colorimeter that can be used to measure the color of cooked French Fries. Currently, cooked fries are either evaluated visually for color or they are measured by a bulky & expensive instrument. The CR-410FF can be used to measure the color of fried potatoes and will display a number, an index value, calculated to correlate to industry standard measurements. The CR-410FF series instrument is based on Konica Minolta’s CR-400 instrument technology, a highly accurate and reliable platform that has been in service to the food industry for over 20 years.
CR-410PB Peanut Butter Package
The CR-410PB is a specialty unit designed specifically for the peanut butter industry. Currently the measurement of peanut butter color is evaluated visually against established USDA standards. The CR-410PB will display a number, an index value, calculated to correlate to USDA standards such as Grade A or Grade B and can also accurately measure whole roasted peanuts.
CR-410C Coffee Package
The CR-410C is a specialty unit designed specifically for roasting of whole bean coffee. Currently the measurement of roasted coffee is either evaluated visually for color or are measured by a bulky & expensive instrument. The CR-410C will display a number, an index value, calculated to correlate to industry standard measurements such as those by the Specialty Coffee Association of America or SCAA.
