Integrated Direct Drive. The Evolution of Drive Technology at GEA Westfalia Separator

Separator CSE 500 from GEA Westfalia Separator Process.

Thursday 05. March 2009 - There are innovations which raise the question why they were not available on the market much earlier. Because they are so clear, so logical and so consistent. The integrated direct drive is one such far-reaching innovation.

This forward-looking drive concept for separators is being used in the field for the first time in the world in the milk bacteria removing separator CSE 500 from GEA Westfalia Separator Process GmbH, and is celebrating its premiere at Anuga FoodTec 2009.

With the integrated drive system now introduced, GEA Westfalia Separator, as the first and only separator manufacturer, has found the ultimate solution and made it accessible to dairy technology as the first user group. The drive is located in the frame directly beneath the bowl. The design of the integrated direct drive was made possible through the availability of special motor technology and the use of modern electrical engineering as well as frequency converters at acceptable prices.

New dimensions
The separator type CSE 500 with integrated direct drive is opening up new dimensions for the dairy industry. The outstanding benefits of this innovation are the further improved degree of efficiency compared to gear machines, flat belt machines and conventional direct drive with improved reliability and availability on the one hand and a lower noise level and less space requirement on the other. Overall, the users benefit from reduced operating costs. In the dairy, the CSE 500 is used for removing bacteria from milk and whey. GEA Westfalia Separator will gradually incorporate the integrated drive for the skimming and clarification of milk and whey, i.e. for all six standard applications for demanding major operations with milk processing volumes upwards from 35,000 l / h starting in 2009.

The new generation is combined with the service package Westfalia Separator wewatch, with which it can then play out its full strengths long-term. Westfalia Separator wewatch offers with online or offline condition monitoring the possibility to plan maintenance precisely and avoid undesirable downtimes. The new drive concept of the integrated direct drive allows milk and whey processors to benefit from better degrees of efficiency and the other advantages incorporated in this innovation.
