New Nozzle Insertion for Spray Dryers: Easily Adjusted to Optimize Particle Agglomeration

New Nozzle Insertion for Spray Dryers

Tuesday 10. March 2009 - GEA Niro will be launching a new nozzle system for spray dryers at ANUGA FoodTec 2009. The nozzle position is easily adjusted, and in this way the operator can decide the direction of the atomized cloud and adjust the nozzle position during plant operation. This new feature allows the operator to design the powder particle structure quickly right inside the dryer.

The new nozzles are placed on short, lightweight lances that are fitted into the side of the air disperser, at the top of the drying chamber. This means that operators can reach them much easier than top-mounted nozzles, and the new design encourages the operators to adjust the position of the nozzles more accurately to achieve the required powder properties – even while the dryer is operating at full capacity.

Previous nozzle designs were difficult to access and furthermore the dryer had to be shut down while adjustments were made. This meant that operators were often reluctant to make minor changes because of the time and loss of production involved.

The new design from GEA Niro, however, allows operators to change the nozzle position quickly and compare those changes immediately with the effect on the finished powder. This means that operators can optimise powder characteristics safely, as the plant is running, without any risk of contamination of products or loss of production. The nozzles are also much easier to handle in all ways.

GEA Niro will be exhibiting at ANUGA FoodTec in Cologne from 10th – 13th March, Hall 4.1, Stand No. G010/H029. Other GEA Group companies engaged in the dairy business are sharing the stand with GEA Niro: GEA Diessel, GEA Filtration, GEA Niro Soavi, GEA PHE Systems, GEA Procomac, GEA Refrigeration, GEA TDS, GEA Tuchenhagen, GEA Westfalia Separator and GEA Wiegand.
