New Smiths Chips Packaging by Visy
Tuesday 03. March 2009 - Smiths Snackfoods (a division of PepsiCo), is Australias largest potato chip manufacturer.
A walk down the potato chip aisle of any supermarket will reveal the opportunities for improvement in the shelf management of multipack chip products, especially as stock depletes. Brand messages are lost, delicate packages lead to broken and wasted product, and the bulky flexible bags are costly to handle.
In conjunction with The Smiths Snackfood Company, Visy spent many years in research and development to come up with the new Box style that delivers a cost effective and sustainable solution, packaged in a shelf ready shipper.
The new Visy microflute Multipacks are strong, standout among the competitive snack food market, and offer specific benefits to:
Retailers
* Shelf efficient
* Easily stored
* Cleaner/impactful displays
* Shelf Ready
Consumers
* Improved pack format
* Easy to handle, carry and store
* Recyclable packaging
* Multipacks for different households and occasions
* Better protected product
Pepsico
* Differentiate product from the competition
* Great for displays
* 100% Recyclable packaging
* Easier to stack and transport
The new packaging has been developed for 15 and 20 pack options, with easy-access windows and carry handles for effortless carrying and pantry access.
Smiths representative Liam Tapper is delighted with the end result.
“Visy are the specialists when it comes to developing cost effective and sustainable packaging solutions. The new boxes look fantastic in stores, and we are looking forward to reaping the benefits associated with less damages and a reduction in handling costs.”, he said.
After five years of research, development and production, Visy and Smiths will produce packaging for 21 million units of Snack Multipacks over the next twelve months. Peter Lloyd, Visy Sales and Marketing Manager is delighted with the outcome.
“The relationship between Visy and Smiths chips is the perfect example of how Visy can help companies improve their sustainability, marketability and supply chain issues. The new Smiths packaging is a project we are proud of and look forward to identifying other opportunities for our innovations to allow our customers to improve their brand.”, he said.
