San Francisco Chronicle Redesigned for 2009
Friday 30. January 2009 - A New Look, New Features, and a Celebration of the Past and of the Future
Beginning Sunday, February 1, the San Francisco Chronicle will offer readers a new look and new features in its daily sections, along with added sections and features that will enhance the value of the Sunday newspaper.
— Readers will notice a new, crisper format that will provide quick access to information and an easy-to-navigate read.
— Our popular Wednesday Food section and Friday Wine section will combine and be published each Sunday and will contain food and wine reviews, along with columns such as “The Working Cook” and “The Cocktailian” with the best of beverages, recipes and kitchen tools.
— Home & Garden will also move to Sunday from its traditional Wednesday and Saturday publication cycle and will feature the latest design ideas, practical hints for growing Bay Area fruits, vegetables and flowers, and tips on tools, furniture and renovation resources.
— With a nod to the past, Sporting Green will be printed on green paper for a limited time.
— February 2 will see the launch of new stories in the daily Datebook section that will focus each day on a timely topic such as health, homes, restaurants and the great outdoors.
— And on Friday, Feb. 6, a new Movies section will debut, featuring film openings, celebrity sightings and the latest DVD releases.
All of this will lead up to a fresh reading experience beginning in Summer 2009 with a new, color-packed layout for the newspaper.
In addition, The Chronicle to celebrate its 144th year of publication with 144 special stories and features planned through June 2009. These items along with our redesigned look and our new layout, are designed to make our 144th year as memorable as our first.
