INVESTMENTS BY BOPACK LABELS FOR 2008 GOING ACCORDING TO PLAN

Wednesday 26. November 2008 - This year, Bopack Labels is investing over EUR 8.5 million in extensions and upgrades to all its operating units. Recent trends in hi-tech applications are fuelling hopes of further growth in the digital print market. Consequently, Bopack Labels is eager to consolidate its trendsetting position in the pan-European market.

Bopack Labels has decided to plough EUR 8.5 million into the growth of the business this year. With 6 subsidiaries dotted over France, the Netherlands and Belgium, the company is at the hub of the bustling European business community. Competition in its niche market is fierce and customers set high standards of quality for their labels – a crucial factor in rapid and accurate product identification and decoration.

CEO Marc Boehlen: “To meet those high standards, Bopack Labels decided – in this current round of investment – to focus on 4 core themes: the highest possible standard of quality, outstanding performance, productivity and accuracy. The 3 extra new digital HP Indigo printing presses will help us achieve these objectives.” The exceptional results obtained with these digital presses are further enhanced by the camera tracking system which will be built into the printing process. Thanks to the renewed investment in camera tracking, Bopack Labels will achieve a higher quality guarantee and considerable gains in time. This technological advance will be most apparent to customers in the pharmaceutical sector. For in that sector, not only are mistakes simply not tolerated, they also constitute a major health hazard.

Via the new Gallus EM 340 printing press, Bopack Labels is able to develop the business even further by increasing the number of long print runs. Labels are composed of 3 layers, i.e. 5 printable sides. For many firms in the chemical industry, this saves them big time on logistics costs since, for each product, the different languages and different local references can now be printed onto a single standardized label that can be applied on existing labeling lines.
An extra CTP system is the fourth investment by Bopack Labels for 2008. By producing the flexographic plates on the premises, not only will the throughput time but also the maximum print resolution improve significantly. The phase in which thin-layered films first had to be prepared chemically has now been omitted. Taking this chemical process out of the production procedure is also better for the environment. This also fits well with its business charter for sustainable development.

The existing and the new hardware are, of course, capably managed by means of the appropriate software. For that, Bopack Labels opted for LabelXPro from the software provider, CERM. The French subsidiaries will be the first to implement this ERP. By partnering with CERM, Bopack Labels aims to give its customers better service, to deliver faster and to communicate with customers in a clearer and standardized way. In the future, this CERM software may even evolve into a platform for e-commerce. The CERM project should be fully operational in all subsidiaries by the end of 2009.
