Datalogics Announces Distribution Agreement for Adobe PDF Print Engine

Monday 27. October 2008 - Datalogics, Incorporated today announced the distribution of the Adobe PDF Print Engine SDK through an extension of their existing distribution agreement with San Jose, CA-based Adobe Systems.

Under the terms of the agreement, licensing, support and maintenance services will be provided directly by Datalogics to independent software vendors (ISVs) looking to embed Adobe PDF Print Engine software into their applications. Adobe PDF Print Engine now joins the roster of other Adobe technologies — including Adobe PDF JobReady, Adobe Normalizer, and the Adobe PDF Library with .NET and Java interfaces — and solidifies Datalogics’ position as the premier source for Adobe PDF developer technologies.

The Adobe PDF Print Engine SDK is a JDF-driven, PDF-native rendering toolkit which employs the same core Adobe technologies used in Creative Suite applications, Adobe Reader(R), and Adobe Acrobat(R). ISVs can leverage these capabilities in their products, enabling reliable, robust and consistent end-to-end PDF print workflows. Adobe PDF Print Engine is built upon open standards including PDF for describing content, ICC profiles to characterize color information, and JDF for job control. Additionally, Adobe PDF Print Engine can natively render jobs in the PDF/X-4 and PDF/X-5 formats, which support live transparency as well as layers and external Reference Xobjects.

“The Adobe PDF Print Engine is a vital tool for prepress applications striving for ‘at-the-RIP’ quality and consistency;” states Kevin McNeill, Executive Vice President, Datalogics, Inc. “Print jobs are often rendered prior to final output, for proofing, analysis, and preprocessing. Applications which employ the PDF Print Engine will now be able to render using the same Adobe technology used in final output, ensuring a consistency and reliability that wasn’t previously available.”

“Datalogics has established itself as a valued channel partner with our Adobe PDF Library, PDF JobReady and Normalizer technologies,” said Sanjeev Gadre, director of product marketing, Print and Publishing at Adobe. “We are confident in their capabilities to bring these developer technologies to ISVs, and are pleased to offer Adobe PDF Print Engine technology through them.”

The Adobe PDF Print Engine SDK is available on Windows 32- and 64-bit platforms, Apple MacOS X, Linux and Sun Solaris platforms; and is available directly from Datalogics.
