Reuters Appoints Chris Cramer to Global Editor of Multimedia for Reuters News

Tuesday 16. September 2008 - Company Wins Online News Association Award for Best Multimedia

Reuters today appointed media executive Chris Cramer to the newly created role of Global Editor of Multimedia for Reuters News. Acting as the key leader and main interface between the news organization and media business, Cramer is charged with driving innovative multimedia projects across all Reuters News units and bureaus worldwide. Cramer will be based in New York City and report into Editor-in-Chief David Schlesinger.

Cramer is an internationally-regarded media executive with more than forty years of experience in news editorial and broadcast. Prior to joining Reuters, Cramer led the world’s two largest broadcast news teams at BBC and CNN and was instrumental in enhancing both teams’ broadcast presence and global reputation. In his new role, Reuters combines the editorial management of Reuters.com with the oversight of multimedia activities.

Cramer ‘s addition comes at an exciting time for Reuters, having just been honored with the Best Multimedia award at the 2008 ONA Awards for their unique multimedia and online documentary “Bearing Witness.” Combining testimony from Reuters journalists with interactive maps, visual timelines, and links to online resources, “Bearing Witness” marked the 5th anniversary of the war in Iraq and paid tribute to the 132 journalists who lost their lives reporting on the conflict.

“Reuters News is committed to developing new ways of telling stories that matter to our clients, and I am thrilled to be recognized for ‘Bearing Witness’,” said Schlesinger. “Cramer’s distinguished track record of driving innovations in news gathering will be key to building on our recognized multimedia ventures and century and a half of journalist excellence.”
