Ijams Nature Center Wins Rohm and Haas Knoxville Community Impact Award
Wednesday 10. September 2008 - Ijams Nature Center receives a Community Partnership Initiative (CPI) Impact Award from the Rohm and Haas Company Knoxville Plant for restoring and beautifying Meads Quarry into a green space for wildlife and visitor interpretation and enjoyment.
The $5,000 CPI Impact Award was created to celebrate Rohm and Haass 10th CPI Anniversary. Through the program, Rohm and Haas has contributed $2.1 million to approximately 46 community organizations throughout North America, including $225,000 in grants provided by the Rohm and Haas Knoxville Plant to seven Knoxville area organizations.
Ijams Nature Center received one of the CPI grants in 2001. The organization used the grant to improve site security and access, accomplish clean up activities, construct trails, create permanent parking, and enhance the centers infrastructure.
“The CPI process is truly a cooperative effort between Rohm and Haas and our neighbors,” said Paul Fortunato, Rohm and Haas Plant Manager. “The committed volunteers who serve on our Community Advisory Council guide the CPI program by evaluating grant applications and awarding grants to local nonprofit organizations.”
The Knoxville CPI focuses on community land-use development or improvement programs. To be eligible, programs must be located within the fenceline neighborhoods of the Rohm and Haas plant including Fort Sanders, Lonsdale, Mechanicsville and West View.
