Quad/Graphics Ranked Among Top Patent Innovators
Wednesday 28. May 2008 - The Wall Street Journal Patent Scorecard(TM) recognizes strength of printer's patent portfolio and impact on industry
Quad/Graphics is the only printer among the Top 35 companies featured in the most recent release of The Wall Street Journal Patent Scorecard(TM) for Heavy Industrial Equipment, reinforcing its position as the printing industry’s innovation leader. Published in the May 20 edition of The Wall Street Journal, the scorecard ranked heavy industrial equipment patent portfolios based on several criteria, including quality, technological strength and industry impact.
“The Patent Scorecard ranking reaffirms our status as the printing industry’s innovation leader for patents that add value not only for Quad/Graphics and our customers, but also for the industry as a whole,” said Joel Quadracci, President & CEO. “Our innovative technology and processes are at the core of our business success, and we will continue to develop technology to strengthen our company and print as a choice communications medium.”
According to the ranking, Quad/Graphics received high scores for:
— Technology Strength(TM), which indicates the overall strength of the
company’s patent portfolio holdings with a combined measure of quality
and patent quantity.
— Industry Impact(TM), which highlights the broad significance the
company’s patent portfolio across the industry. The score indicates the
role patents play in serving as a foundation for other patents and
technologies.
— Research Intensity(TM), which indicates the extent to which the
portfolio includes patents with above-average scientific linkages.
According to Patent Board spokesperson Christine Wren, a higher score
indicates that a company’s technology is closer to cutting edge than
its competitors.
The Wall Street Journal partners with the Patent Board, a leading patent advisor for businesses, banks, law firms and governments, to publish scorecards for 17 different industry sectors. The Heavy Industrial Equipment scorecard comprises 109 companies from around the world, including printers. One industry-specific scorecard appears each week in The Wall Street Journal.
