Extensions to the Durrer Product Range

Thursday 22. May 2008 - The increased demand in the area of index cutting led to a range of further developments for the two best known Durrer machines for processing step indexes - the REMAT and the REGA 5. At DRUPA, Durrer will also be presenting innovations in semi-automatic production and processing of step indexes as well as a range of new developments in wall calendar production and book block processing.

Innovations

BLOFIX
The big news from Durrer at the trade fair is without doubt the presentation of the BLOFIX for production of wall calendars. The fully automatic processing line sticks up to four printed and cut calendar blocks on a backing and fixes calendar headers to the calendar. A combination of hot and cold glue improves the long-term fastening of the calendar blocks. The outstanding features of the system are the large format range of the products to be processed as well as the high cycle output of up to 2,400 calendars per hour.

The BLOFIX includes further important processing steps for production of wall calendars:
– Cutting fixing straps for the individual calendar blocks
– Creases (for folding)
– Holes (for hanging)
– Eyelet (strengthening the hanger hole)
– Labelling (Strengthening the hanger block, covering the eyelet)
– Calendar header contour cut

The MONA is the perfect complement to BLOFIX in the Durrer product range. This produces date slides fully automatically and fits them to the finished calendars. The date slides are produced directly on the machine and allow the client sufficient scope for selection of shape and colour. Together these two machines form a complete processing unit for automatic production and assembly of wall calendars.

In the project phase there is an automatic folding machine, so that the calendars can be laid out ready for packaging without manual handling.

REMAT
When the new generation of REMAT went into production this year, Durrer set new standards for semi-automatic machines. The most important development goals were the highest working safety and optimum ergonomics along with improved performance. This was achieved using the latest control and drive technology. The new REMAT offers the greatest possible flexibility in cut shapes and can also process the thickest products. Using two cutting units makes it possible to change from angle to thumb index in minutes. The REMAT supports all known cut shapes for catalogues, telephone books, brochures, exercise books and loose leaves.

REBIB
The bible cuts commonly used in reference works and Bibles previously had to be made laboriously by hand. With the REBIB, DURRER now offers a semi-automatic solution with high flexibility. At DRUPA you have the chance to see this new development. Extensive works with sewn or adhesive binding are no longer an obstacle for this development from Durrer. The REBIB cuts bible cuts in block thicknesses up to 80 mm.
In addition to the cutting process, Durrer is currently developing an automatic solution for applying printed labels. With this addition, Durrer offers a complete range of machines for bible cut index processing, and at an interesting price.

REDRU
The REDRU is another new development from Durrer; an autonomous printer unit for printing cut indexes. The REDRU prints European and Arabic indexes and supports all normal types of binding including loose-leaf products. The machine is a perfect complement to the REGA 5 and REMAT.

PLABI 6
The PLABI 6 is a fully automatic processing line for plastic comb binding, with modular construction. Durrer is showing the module for production of comb binders for the first time at Drupa. It produces plastic binders in a two-second cycle from a roll or from a plate magazine. There is the option of having the binders printed or provided with a ribbon bookmarker.

In addition to the comb binding module there are two further modules. One is responsible for book block production. This includes collecting individual sheets, folded sheets (inc. folded organisers) and enclosures, it puts on the covers and carries out the binding cutting, corner perforation, corner cutting and four-sided cut. The third module is the binding module. It inserts the comb binder that has been produced into the binding cut. Complete automation makes plastic comb binding economically interesting.

Further developments

REGA 5
Since the last DRUPA, Durrer has been working intensively on further development of the REGA 5. The fully automatic index cutting machine has already been sold over 30 times worldwide. This underlines Durrer’s position as market leader in the manufacture of fully automatic machines for index cut processing. Paper grades from 30g m2, book block thicknesses up to 60 mm, automatic count check, formats from A5 to A4 and performance up to 1500 pieces per hour (depending on the number of sheets) make the REGA 5 the Durrer flagship.

As well as the exhibits described, Durrer is showing proven machine types like the REGA 4 or DULA 4. Future machine developments depend principally on individual customer needs.
