RFID-Optimized Commodity Flow Adds Value
Monday 05. May 2008 - At Interpack 2008, three divisions of Schreiner Group based in Oberschleissheim near Munich - MediPharm, ProSecure and LogiData - demonstrate how innovation leads to better solutions in packaging technology. The experts from Schreiner LogiData deliver advanced solutions for automated, RFID-based identification systems, which make commodity flows transparent and improve logistics processes.
Automated Identification
Controlling the value and supply chains based on exact knowledge of the required time, place and quantity of product as well as the type and purpose of all downstream processes and other relevant information can lead to significant cost savings. Intelligent auto-ID systems by Schreiner LogiData enable the requirements-driven distribution of commodities or assembly components as well as their traceability based on the data stored in the system. As a result, manufacturing and supply processes can be fully automatically controlled and seamlessly documented. For this purpose, packaging or products have to be marked by appropriate tags or labels, such as RFID labels, which are used in conjunction with respective readers and customized software supporting the processes involved.
The right choice of auto-ID solution for a specific labeling project depends on numerous factors. Available options include barcode and RFID technology. They do not compete with each other but, ideally, are used to complement one another. Therefore, companies like Schreiner LogiData offer not only single but combined solutions. While barcodes can be read directly on the object by means of scanner, RFID labels perform other tasks as well. Additional data can be stored and/or updated on the transponder. This data can be accessed remotely, even across longer distances. As a result, packaged goods may be identified, or entire pallets read, in a single pass. This saves time and significantly simplifies processes.
Ready to Meet Special Challenges
Schreiner LogiDatas new ((rfid))-Inmold-Label demonstrates how the strengths of these technologies can be effectively applied, even in difficult operating conditions. This innovative solution was specifically developed for returnable transport containers such as those typically used in general industrial environments to move assembly components from one site to another. Many businesses have already adopted the practice of marking their returnable containers with RFID labels to actively control and monitor their logistics processes. However, the smart labels applied to the outside of the containers do not always resist the high mechanical loads and changing ambient conditions to which they are exposed. To answer this challenge, Schreiner LogiData developed a label that is firmly embedded in the respective injection-molded components, using inmolding technology. This provides the embedded special-purpose label with a plastic coating for reliable protection from external influences. In addition, the new ((rfid))-Inmold-Label combines barcode and RFID technology and thus makes all key data available from more than one source, assuring permanent, reliable control of plastic container movements. As a result of this cutting-edge, value-adding solution, the logistics processes of a business can be optimized across the entire shipping distance.
New: RFID Label for Metallic Substrates
In order to operate successfully, RFID solutions must be tailored exactly to the requirements of the specific project. That is why Schreiner LogiDatas portfolio includes Smart Labels for diverse substrates. All auto-ID systems delivered by Schreiner LogiData are customized to meet the clients specific operating requirements and project objectives. Newly developed RFID transponder labels such as the ((rfid))-UHF-OnMetal-Label by Schreiner LogiData ensure trouble-free service even on metallic substrates.
Technology Meets Know-how
Numerous success stories demonstrate that RFID technology can lead to clearly leaner processes, and thus to significant cost savings. These can be achieved by working together with an experienced partner, who possesses innovative marking technologies as well as the requisite know-how to implement and integrate them into existing systems. Auto-ID systems need to be customized to meet the respective project requirements – an investment that pays off by delivering quick returns. To assure the success of any customer project, Schreiner LogiData collaborates with specialized partners; they analyze the current state, define project objectives, perform feasibility studies, develop the fitting solution, and systematically implement it in cooperation with the customer.
