Canon Launches First Colour Printer in the Light Production Market with Clear Toner

Thursday 10. April 2008 - • First light production colour printer with clear toner launched • Value-add technology designed to boost revenues and save costs for printers in the Print-for-Pay, commercial and creative sectors

Canon Europe, world leader in digital imaging technology, today announced the launch of the first ever colour device with clear toner for the light production market that further builds on the success of the imagePRESS C1. The device is unique in that it boasts a clear toner, which enhances the final print product, and is yet another innovative extension of the imagePRESS range, demonstrating the successful growth of the imagePRESS brand.

Mark Lawn, European Marketing Manager, Professional Solutions Strategic Marketing, Canon Europe, said: “Since the launch of the imagePRESS C1 in November 2006, we have sold in excess of 4,000 machines throughout Europe, which proves that the device has already firmly established itself within the market, and has become synonymous with a high level of excellence and versatility.”

Clear toner will further boost the image quality of the new imagePRESS, allowing users to enhance colour or black-and-white areas when printing – with particular emphasis on selected text, logos and images. This is all achieved during the print process, therefore eliminating the cost normally associated with separate offline finishing processes. As a result, the new device presents a cost-effective way of adding value to the print product in print-on-demand environments.

Customers in the Print-for-Pay, commercial and creative Service sectors can use the capabilities of the new colour clear toner device to expand their product ranges. For creative services, this enables them to offer new design opportunities – using one device only.

Lawn added: “After listening very closely to the business challenges our customers are facing, we developed the new colour clear toner device, which considerably increases the services our customers can offer their clients.

With the extended capabilities of the machine, print suppliers are able to market and differentiate themselves. They can now offer even more value-added services, resulting in new revenue streams and increased customer loyalty. The new device builds on this success and further underlines Canon’s commitment to the Professional Print market, demonstrating our understanding of the business challenges print providers face. I am proud that we are once again setting new precedents with our innovative technology, firmly setting our customers on their path to profit.”

The new device will be available throughout Europe from Q4 2008.
