Colourful and sustainable: cover Samo and the secret witch lake made of cardboard quality from Metsä Board.

Monday 25. April 2022 - bout one million children in Germany will receive a free book as a present. For the second year in a row, this will be printed on environmentally friendly board from the Finnish board manufacturer Metsä Board.

“Samo und der geheime Hexensee” (cbj Verlag) children go on an exciting journey.
On 23 April, Germany will once again celebrate UNESCO World Book Day. For the 26th time, the book voucher campaign “Ich schenk dir eine Geschichte” (I’ll give you a story) will be launched throughout Germany. With this campaign to promote reading, more than 3,500 participating bookstores nationwide are giving children in the 4th and 5th grades the joy of reading. For the second year in a row, Metsä Board, a leading European manufacturer of premium virgin fibre board, is providing a particularly environmentally friendly board quality for the cover. This year, young reading enthusiasts can look forward to the fantastic story &bdquoIva, Samo und der geheime Hexensee” by Bettina Obrecht. Thanks to the lovely illustrations by Timo Grubing, the book is also well suited for use in integration, support and welcome classes.
&bdquoWe are very happy to be part of such a great and important project again. For the cover, we have chosen the ecological, lightweight FSC (C001580)-certified MetsäBoard Prime FBB Bright 235 g/m² board. The colourful cover illustration looks very good on it and we still minimise the book’s carbon footprint. The quality was supplied by our wholesale partner, Inapa Germany,” explains Gabriel Goldmayer, Sales Director at Metsä Board.
Iva, Samo und der geheime Hexensee is published by cbj, a children’s book publisher of the Penguin Random House publishing group, Munich. Barbara Scheuer, the company’s overall production manager, says: &bdquoWe are pleased that we can also set an example for sustainable production with our World Day book this year. Because not only do we use the high-quality and ecological material from Metsä Board, but we were also able to have this title produced completely according to the certified &bdquoCradle to Cradle” principle. Everything was designed so that the product can be returned to biological or technical cycles at the end of its life cycle.
