Canon showcases latest cutsheet digital print developments at Cutting Edge customer event

Friday 16. March 2018 - Canon Europe is hosting its second Cutting Edge customer event from 13-15 March 2018 at its Customer Experience Center in Venlo, The Netherlands, where it will showcase the latest innovations in its cutsheet digital print solutions portfolio.

The event, which is expected to attract some 400 Canon customers from across Europe, will feature demonstrations of Canon colour and mono cutsheet digital print technologies, including the Océ VarioPrint i-series and imagePRESS C10000VP and C850 series presses for colour production and the award winning Canon varioPRINT 140 and Océ VarioPrint 6000 TITAN series presses for monochrome applications.
With the aim of inspiring delegates with the opportunities enabled by the latest technology advancements across the sheetfed inkjet and toner print portfolio, customers can explore all presses in live production of a range of commercial applications, driven by state-of-the-art workflow software and supported by third-party finishing solutions. Canon wide format solutions, including the Océ Colorado 1640 roll-to-roll printer featuring Canon UVgel technology and the Océ Arizona flatbed series, will also be on show.
The two mono production presses, the Canon varioPRINT 140, which recently received the BLI Production Printer Pro Award, and the Océ VarioPrint Titan series, which features its unique Gemini Instant Duplex Technology, will be demonstrating how it can significantly improve productivity gains for customers. To further demonstrate how to achieve production efficiencies, Canon’s digital cutsheet technology solutions on show will be supported by workflow and output management system PRISMA and third party software from finishing partner Tecnau.
The Cutting Edge event will demonstrate how Canon’s continuous innovation, such as the new iQuarius MX inks for the Océ VarioPrint i-series and the addition of an automated duplex feeder for banner sheets for the imagePRESS C850 series (see separate releases), can help print service providers (PSPs) and in-house print rooms to increase productivity and strengthen their applications portfolio, driving new revenue streams and delivering additional growth opportunities.
The opening keynote presentation will be delivered by innovation expert Danny Meki?, who will discuss the future of technology, the value of printed information in today’s digital world and how customers can be inspired to grow their business from a blank sheet. Internationally renowned expert on innovation and modern management Lars Sudmann will also share his ideas as to how PSPs can lead by example and collaborate with partners like Canon to drive their business forward and develop competitive edge.
Visitors will also hear from Canon customers who are already reaping the benefits of investing in digital cutsheet solutions, such as Latvian book producer Livonia Print and the in-house print department of MAN Bus & Truck AG from Germany.
Managing director Trond Erik Isakse, Livonia Print, comments, “With digital print, publishers can produce significantly smaller quantities to trial a title, and order further reprints depending on how successfully it sells. We want to give publishers the opportunity to print exactly what they need from an asset store of prepared digital files, and even to extend this print-on-demand capability directly to the book store.”
Customers can also tour the Venlo Manufacturing and Logistics factory and participate in a series of workshops, covering a broad range of topics including: the future of in-house printing in 2020; insights into the graphic arts publishing and promotional industry; the impact of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on print production businesses.
For customers active in publishing, the event will highlight how Canon’s solutions align to growing trends, such as on-demand colour books and manuals. At the event, Canon can advise customers on how to realise integrated workflow solutions, implement innovative business models and stay ahead of publishing trends.
Customers specialising in promotional material will be inspired by the fictional “Elemental” brand campaign, which demonstrates the integration of various promotional print applications in a multichannel consumer campaign. The campaign will show how customers can capitalise on the capabilities of Canon cutsheet digital presses to take advantage of new opportunities, such as the production of packaging inserts on ultra-lightweight media. The auto-duplex long sheet printing capability of the imagePRESS C850 also enables customers to fully utilise all of the space on the paper for promotional messages and differentiate themselves by using non-traditional, standout formats.
Following Canon’s own FOGRA 51 certification for the imagePRESS C10000VP and C850 series and Océ VarioPrint i-series cutsheet presses (see separate release), the Cutting Edge event will include a workshop introducing FOGRA, explaining its value for print businesses in enabling them to meet the most exacting levels of colour consistency for high quality client work.
Peter Wolff, Senior Director, Customer Groups Commercial Printer & CRDs, Canon Europe comments, “Our Cutting Edge event provides us with a great opportunity to inspire customers to explore all the possibilities with cutsheet digital print. The latest innovations across our inkjet and toner platforms, in small and wide format, underline Canon’s deep investment in finding solutions that create new opportunities for our customers. The event will demonstrate how customers can improve process efficiency to take advantage of the accelerating trend to on-demand production, diversify their applications portfolio and identify new revenue opportunities to fuel their growth.”
