Canon achieves Fogra PSD accreditation for sheetfed production presses

Thursday 15. March 2018 - Canon Europe has achieved Fogra PSD (Process Standard Digital) certification conforming to FOGRA51 for the imagePRESS C10000VP series, imagePRESS C850 series and Océ VarioPrint i-series printers at its Customer Experience Center in Venlo, The Netherlands.

This latest accreditation gives customers increased confidence that Canon’s varied portfolio of digital toner and sheetfed inkjet presses meets the most exacting colour management standards for client work demanding a high level of colour consistency. The imagePRESS C10000VP, imagePRESS C850 and Océ VarioPrint i300 were all tested to the new digital production standard, ISO/TS15311-2.
The imagePRESS models were validated using two different media types, Silk 170gsm and a standard offset coated paper, Sappi Magno Plus Gloss 115gsm, with two alternative controllers (PRISMAsync and EFI). Print runs of a minimum of 500 copies were tested to simulate colour consistency in real production scenarios.
The Océ VarioPrint i300 press was also tested with offset coated paper (Sappi Magno Plus Gloss 115gsm), using the new iQuarius MX inks designed for high quality commercial print applications (see separate press release). The press achieved the highest possible Print Quality Class, grade A.
The international Fogra PSD standard uses a ‘media relative’ method, meaning that certification is completed comparing various types of paper at different standards. This approach takes into account the whiteness of contemporary printing stocks, which are frequently enhanced with optical brightening agents.
Peter Wolff, Senior Director, Customer Group Commercial Printer and Production CRD, Canon Europe comments: “As increasing volumes of high quality commercial print work migrate from analogue to digital production, it’s critical that print service providers (PSPs) can be confident of achieving colour consistency week in and week out, print to print and job to job. Customers who successfully implement the Fogra PSD standard themselves will reap the benefits of improved quality and enhanced production performance, while reducing waste.”
Both Canon imagePRESS devices use Consistently Vivid (CV) toner and real-time Multi-Density Adjustment Technology (Multi D.A.T) to improve transfer efficiency across a wide variety of media for optimal colour consistency. The flagship imagePRESS C10000VP production colour press also incorporates an inline spectroscopic sensor, which ensures reliable quality through colour calibration with minimal operator intervention.
The VarioPrint i-series incorporates iQuarius Technologies, a unique combination of developments specifically designed to enhance inkjet print quality. These innovations include special inks with cosolvents and waxes, sheet monitoring systems, low temperature drying and automatic image quality monitoring and correction.
Wolff concludes: “We’re proud to achieve this independent endorsement from a respected research facility such as Fogra across our portfolio of cutsheet toner and inkjet digital print technologies. It’s powerful proof of Canon’s depth of expertise in colour management and our capability to support customers to achieve the same colour consistency in their businesses.”
