Digital Packaging Innovations purchases first HP Indigo 20000 in Africa

Monday 10. October 2016 - Kenyan printer set to complete landmark installation in late 2016

HP Inc. today announced that Kenya-based packaging provider, Digital Packaging Innovations Ltd (DPI), has purchased an HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press, marking the first purchase of this press in the African continent. The landmark installation is set to be completed in late 2016, and as the company’s first digital press, will allow DPI to enter entirely new markets.

“As leaders in the field, HP became the obvious partner for us to promote digital growth and disrupt the African print market,” commented Kunal Chandaria, Sales Director, DPI. “With the first HP Indigo 20000, we are proud to put Africa on the map with the best printing options, and to be able to provide the best solutions for customers’ needs. Digital printing is clearly here to stay, and on-demand short-to-medium run length capabilities are the future of the industry.”

With a 740 x 1100 mm image format, the HP Indigo 20000 Digital Press captures the vast majority of flexible packaging jobs, enabling DPI the digital freedom to work across a range of applications from labels and flexible packaging to shrink sleeves, in-mould labels and folding cartons. With zero setup, minimal waste and easy versioning capabilities, the new digital press will also allow the company to service an entirely new range of customers by making short print runs profitable, providing an important competitive edge against printers using conventional technologies. HP Indigo technology is also the only digital colour printing process that matches offset printing, delivering high resolution printing and perfect registration.

The press is set to be installed alongside AB Graphics’ DIGICON 3000 finishing unit, which will provide DPI with a complete end-to-end packaging solution.

The sale was supported by HP’s local channel partners in Kenya, Elite Digital, along with HP’s regional representatives. “As well as market-leading technology, HP is widely recognized for its excellent customer and sales support, which was evident throughout our entire purchase process,” continued Chandaria. “With any new business, it is vital to have the right support, and this is precisely what we’ve experienced. We look forward to continuing our partnership with HP into the future as we work to bring Africa to the next level of digital printing.”
