Harland Simon Press Controls go live at PPG.

Monday 06. October 2014 - As part of the new press installation at Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Harland Simon was selected to provide press controls for the new Goss Uniliner which went into live production on Sunday 7th September. In collaboration with Goss and other 3rd party suppliers Harland Simon was on site to see the new press printing its first live production at the new facility in Pittsburgh, PA.

This is the latest collaboration between the controls and press specialists; working together to promote the best interests of the end user. This is nothing new for Goss and Harland Simon, who have had a long history of working together in Europe including the FPS presses in the UK and Netherlands and the recent Goss Colorliner CPS press at DC Thomson, UK. However this collaboration has also benefitted customers in the Americas including The New York Post’s installation in 2011, following this working together at El Mercurio, Chile to supply drive communications from newly installed drives masters to Goss’s control consoles.
Lisa Hurm, Director of Operations for Pittsburgh Post-Gazette commented, “We were pleased to have Harland Simon be the vendor of choice for the press control system on our new Uniliner press. We have been a customer of Harland Simon for many years, and have always found them to have solid products and support. Our press operators have adapted quickly to the control desk and the functionality of the overall system. Harland Simon has been consistent in their support throughout the project.”
The latest collaboration involves the supply of two Prima 6000 consoles with touch screen technology and the latest Prima Management System [Prima MS], including comprehensive press monitoring, advanced reporting and ink presetting with adaptive learning algorithms; all with the use of ‘off-the-shelf’ industry standard hardware. This latest generation of Harland Simon’s Prima MS, includes the support of triple wide configuration. Furthermore, Harland Simon has further automated the process at PPG by integrating Prima MS with Puzzleflow’s workflow system and the PressNet control system with QI’s closed loop registration system.
John Staiano, Managing Director – Americas, for Harland Simon, further commented, “We have been working with PPG since the late 90’s and to be selected to continue that relationship with our friends at Pittsburgh is great news for all involved.”
The consoles and system architecture have also been designed in such a way that it will be possible, at a later date, to expand the system and incorporate additional integration to 3rd party systems.
