Canon announces free firmware upgrades for its first Mopria certified products

i-SENSYS MF8580Cdw

Monday 26. May 2014 - Canon Europe has today announced that it will begin offering free firmware upgrades¹ for seven i-SENSYS laser all-in-one printers and one PIXMA inkjet all-in-one that have received Mopria certification, to make it simple and convenient to print from mobile devices.

The upgrades allow compatible Canon devices to automatically detect a Wi-Fi connection from Mopria certified smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. Users can print documents from their mobile devices by simply selecting the detected printer indicated on the screen.
The Mopria certified Canon all-in-one line-up for home offices and small-to-medium-sized businesses comprises the i-SENSYS MF8580Cdw, MF8550Cdn, MF8540Cdn, MF8280Cw, MF8230Cn (released in May 2013) and the MF6180dw, MF6140dn (released in March 2014). Canon’s PIXMA MG7150 all-in-one inkjet printer for home users (released in September 2013) will also receive the firmware update.
Mobile printing to date has required the installation of applications developed by printer manufacturers, users will now be able to easily realise wireless printing from mobile devices whenever and wherever needed—at home, in the workplace or on the go and in future Mopria-certified printers will increase in number.
As a founding member of the Mopria Alliance, Canon is among the first companies to begin developing Mopria-certified products. Canon will continue its efforts to make printing as convenient as possible for users while enhancing its line-up of Mopria certified products.
