Brohl Wellpappe inaugurates the BOBST seven-colour FFG 924 NT RS flexo folder gluer including varnishing and IR/UV drying.
Thursday 05. December 2013 - On 18 October 2013, Brohl Wellpappe GmbH & Co. KG in Mayen held a ceremony to officially bring the new BOBST FFG 924 NT RS flexo folder gluer into operation. This innovative seven-colour production line including varnishing and IR/UV drying is designed to produce high-quality corrugated cardboard packaging in a single operation, and was developed jointly by Brohl Wellpappe and BOBST. It is the latest fruit of a long partnership which has already created a number of innovative machine prototypes.
“Once we’d started using our five-colour flexo folder gluer, developed jointly with BOBST, the logical next step was a machine with two additional colours plus varnishing, IR inter-colour drying and IR final drying, UV drying and complete quality control,” is how the Director Maximilian Boltersdorf describes the aims of this most recent collaborative venture.
In addition to this configuration with printing, varnishing and drying, BOBST also equipped the new FFG 924 NT RS with extra features at Brohl Wellpappe’s request. For example, the innovative production facility uses specially configured printing units to give the packaging specialist much more flexibility in production. As Boltersdorf explains: “When we change the material there is no need to constantly change the anilox rollers to obtain perfect results.” The result is shorter setting-up times and fewer stoppages.
Other features of the new flexo folder gluer are a quick change system for the anilox rollers, automatic printing length correction, the option of working with variable plate thicknesses, a rotary die-cutter with vacuum transfer and reinforced anvil cylinder for full die-cutting, a folder gluer with dual fold, and its iQ300 quality control system that continuously monitors the folding boxes and guarantees Brohl Wellpappe virtually defect-free operation from the FFG 924 NT RS. The fully automatic Prefeeder Multiloader and an FFG Palletizer Multipal further enhance the high productivity of the line, which has an output of up to 20,000 folding boxes per hour.
“Along with Brohl Wellpappe we are very proud of the successful development of the new FFG 924 NT RS. With its seven colours and IR/UV drying, it takes the production of high-quality folding boxes to new levels of productivity and quality, while remaining cost-effective,” said Ralph Schuck, Director of Bobst Lyon, the BOBST company responsible for manufacturing the line, when the system was brought into service in Mayen. “Our two companies have been building on our partnership ever since Brohl Wellpappe installed their first BOBST die-cutter 50 years ago and their first flexo folder gluer 40 years ago. The new FFG 924 NT RS is a real milestone for both BOBST and Brohl.”
