EDELMANN Printing Machines and his new owner, the UMUR Group present future-oriented products
Friday 16. August 2013 - The printing machine manufacturer Southern Germany, who was well known in the industry under the name Edelmann Graphics GmbH, was taken over by the Turkish UMUR Group in 2011. The Edelmann company was founded in 1953. In 1991, the company was sold to an American company group, and in 2003 the company was continued in the form of a holding company. At this time, the name was changed to "Edelmann Printing Machines GmbH (EPM)". The original product ranges for narrow- and medium-gauge web offset and hybrid machines are continued almost without any changes.
With approx. 1,000 employees, the Umur Group, based in Istanbul, is one of Turkey’s 500 largest companies. Its main area of activity are a printing plant and the manufacture & distribution of school and office supplies. With over 25 years of experience in the printing industry, the Umur Group has been able to firm up its position in the industry even further with the purchase of EPM. With more than 20 purchased printing machines, it is still Edelmann’s largest customer. This development makes it possible for the company – as owner of the machine building company and at the same time as a client as a printing plant – to pursue a vertical integration and support EPM as a strong family business. EPM is the only company in Germany that is owned by the UMURGroup.
In addition, the UMUR Group places great value on maintaining the established structures in the Edelmann operation, which is why hardly any changes are being carried out in the management or among the suppliers. The local Managing Director is Norbert Wilhelm; the representative of the Turkish company owner is Alp Evrenosoglu and Frank Seibert is responsible for sales and construction. EPM was also able to recruit Dr. Stefan Wilhelm for the marketing area.
The company structure of EPM consists of four business columns:
1. Offset Printing Machines
2. Offline Systems
3. Used Printing Machines
4. Spare Parts and Service of Original Edelmann Machines
The first business column represents Offset Printing Machines. Aside from the Star-Print machine with sleeve change system and bearer-ring technology as a flagship, the company also offers limited production runs with low web width. These are the EVO-PRINT 43/52, COLOR PRINT 52/72/76 and WEB PRINT 39 machines. Depending on customer requirements, they can reach speeds between 250 and 400 m/min.
The second business column represents the manufacture of Offline Systems, like the Fast Paper Processor (FPP). What is special about this system is that it is used as a continuation of offset printing. With a safe web guide roll, it makes digital and therefore personalised printing possible. It is a future-oriented system, since the FPP can already run at a speed of 500 m/min, while the digital printing systems currently on the market in many cases can only attain speeds below 500 m/min. If the digital print heads should also reach such speeds, then one would only need to exchange these, making the purchase of a completely new offline system unnecessary. It is possible to integrate any finishing components individually after the digital impression systems (punching, laminating, cutting etc.).
The third business column represents the purchase, reconditioning, maintenance and sale of Used Edelmann Printing Machines. By using original Edelmann spare parts, an optimal lifecycle of the machines is ensured. The company handles the purchase of used machines for customers at auctions as well as the trade-in of these machines.
EPM’s fourth business column represents the spare parts business. At this point, EPM has sold around 2,500 web printing machines and 10,000 sheet printing machines of the “Praktika” series worldwide and offers immediate help via its service department, which among other things includes a quick inspection of the problem by qualified, experienced professionals. After this, the company handles delivery and supply of spare parts to ensure a quick and correct repair of the machines.
Based on these four business columns, EPM is the ideal partner of all printing companies and plants in the areas of labelling, packaging, form job and security printing as well as for special applications. The Fast Paper Processor will be officially introduced for the first time at the “Label-Expo” in Brussels on September 24 – 27, 2013.
