“Make me smile” is the theme for the designmaker 2013

It focuses on the point of interaction between creative specialists, technicians and producers: for the third time, the designmaker is looking for designs that can be implemented on a wide variety of materials and advertising media. The competition thus acts as a bridge between the creative industries and advertising technology. Applications for participation are still open until the end of August to creative specialists of all kids. The award presentation will take place in November at viscom in Düsseldorf which, with its exhibitors from all segments of visual communication, is the perfect setting for this cross-media competition.
In broad-scale campaigns, creative work has to meet different technical requirements depending on the type of medium. Key visuals and logos must have an optimum effect on a variety of advertising carriers. The designmaker reproduces this challenge: In addition to design quality, consistency of the overall concept on the full range of media is a decisive consideration. The design must work in a total of ten different ways: per digital printing technology as a full car wrap, in a light box, on glass and on a roll-down banner, via print & cut systems as a silhouette film sticker and floor film, as a textile transfer, direct textile print and all-over transfer print on T-shirts and as a promotional product in the shape of a mug, a ballpoint pen and flip-flops. Participants supply the appropriate layout, the practical realisation on the different media will be taken care of by viscom. This year’s theme “make me smile” leaves the creative specialists ample space to play with ideas.
Award presentation during viscom
The three best designs which will be chosen by an expert jury made up from the partners, sponsors and the media, will present themselves at the trade show in a special exhibition. viscom will also provide the setting for the award presentation to be held on the first day of the trade fair, 7 November 2013. All winners will have the opportunity to explain their designs to the exhibitors, visitors and trade press present. In addition, the best design will receive € 3,000.- in prize money, the second prize carries € 2,000.-, and the third € 1,000.-. Additional non-cash prizes from the sponsors will also be awarded.

The designmaker is organised by viscom organiser Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH, together with Potter Werbeagentur, Karl Gröner GmbH and creativ collection Verlag GmbH. The competition is extensively supported by platinum sponsor Hewlett-Packard Deutschland GmbH and silver sponsor Complott Papier Union GmbH.
