New ARTICLE MAGAZINE celebrates Britain with the coolest of papers

Friday 05. July 2013 - ARTICLE is a brand new magazine, published by Unbound, twice a year. Its aim is to celebrate what makes Britain great from a unique and interesting perspective. This exclusive title covers everything from art and design to culture, entertainment and contemporary men's fashion.

Created by Fashion Editor Kenny Ho and Art Director and Designer Rosy Tsai, the launch edition was printed with the support of Arctic Paper UK onto a selection of the finest paper stocks, including Arctic Matt, Arctic Silk, Arctic Volume White and design leading Munken Lynx Rough.
It was an unusual combination of paper, but Art Director Rosy Tsai, believes it was the perfect choice. Having worked on many projects, Rosy found the challenge was not just about creating a beautiful magazine, but about presenting the photographs and editorial content in a different format; something that would be instantly eye-catching. Each section of the magazine was therefore sectioned with the chosen paper for each specific creative zone.
According to Rosy, Munken Rough was the first choice as ‘It is a good honest, uncoated paper with a tactile appeal, which I have previously used. It is not too bulky or shiny, yet reproduces colour in a unique way’. The Arctic coated papers were selected for the art based photographic imagery because they gave ‘an additional intense lift to the blacks and colours and highlighted the artist’s work’.
“The finished product is instantly different. The choice of both coated and uncoated stock gives an immediate optical differentiation. Each paper type has its own distinctive feel and look and way of reflecting the colour, images and light. It gives the magazine a more intimate feel as well as a beautiful finish”, said Rosy.
Article – a mixture of text with full colour photographs – was printed by London Based printer PUSH. Using 5 colours throughout, it was produced on a Heidelberg Speedmaster 102XS. 1000 copies were produced with 350 extra ‘limited editions’ featuring a die-cut and gold foiled slip case. The binding design contains an unusual ‘exposed spine’ with visible stitching.
Garry Colyer, Managing Director for Arctic Paper UK said “We are thrilled to support this unique magazine which is truly inspirational in both terms of design and its choice of Arctic Papers. Furthermore, all standard Arctic Papers are FSC certified so it has great environmental credentials too, something that is close to the hearts of both the design industry and Arctic Paper.”
