Canon helps organisations embrace cloud-based document sharing with new software for MFDs
Tuesday 18. June 2013 - Canon Europe, world-leader in imaging solutions, is announcing that Nuance Scan to Cloud software is now available on its imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform of multifunctional devices (MFDs). The software allows organisations to automatically convert paper documents into editable formats and send them to cloud based document and sharing services including Google Drive, Dropbox, MS SharePoint or salesforce-com. The introduction of Nuance Scan to Cloud complements a range of scanning software solutions already available to customers on the imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform.
The new software is easily installed and doesn’t require a server. By running directly on the imageRUNNER ADVANCE MFDs, organisations can benefit from the features of Nuance Scan to Cloud without needing to invest in additional IT hardware. The software drastically reduces the steps necessary to upload editable documents to the cloud, saving businesses valuable time and allowing them to work more efficiently. Users can manage the whole capture-and-upload process conveniently from the MFD in three simple steps.
“We know that the ability to accelerate and optimise business processes is crucial in today’s workplace, and the cloud plays a vital role in this trend,” comments Daniel Seris, Office Solutions Marketing Manager Manager at Canon Europe.
“According to our Office Insights report, 88% of CIOs rate cloud computing as a business priority over the next 18 months, while 63% of business leaders believe the cloud can make the entire organisation more business agile and responsive. Markets are becoming increasingly competitive and require fast and informed decision-making, for which mobility is key. Employees therefore need to access and edit documents whenever and wherever they want – in the office, at home or on the go. Nuance Scan to Cloud, alongside Canon’s devices and technologies, supports organisations in adapting a more mobile and efficient approach to managing business documents.”
The software uses dictionary-based optical character recognition (OCR) when converting paper-based documents into editable text, which provides more accuracy than standard OCR methods. Organisations can scan and convert documents in more than 100 languages.
To keep company information safe, Nuance Scan to Cloud comes with enhanced security features. It requires user authentication for scanning and uploading documents to the cloud and ensures that no documents are stored on the MFD. In addition, documents are transferred securely to the cloud using Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS), a protocol for secure communication over the network.
Nuance Scan to Cloud enhances the functionality of Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices and closes the gap between the Scan Kit, which comes as standard with each the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE device offering basic scanning functionality, and the advanced server-based eCopy ShareScan, offering advanced information extraction, personalisation and security features.
Nuance Scan to Cloud will be available from 17 June 2013 through Canon resellers.
