Fuji Xerox Issues Sustainability Report 2012

Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. today issued its English edition of the Sustainability Report 2012, detailing the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives undertaken by the company and its affiliates in FY2011.
Based on the concept, “CSR and corporate management are one and the same,” Fuji Xerox considers social sustainability in all its activities. Fuji Xerox created the Sustainability Report to describe to the stakeholders our challenges to “Create, Connect, into the Future,” and to improve its activities by listening to the opinions of the readers.
As the company celebrated its ’50th anniversary in February and embarked on the next 50 years, this year’s report includes a section that looks back on its history of CSR management. In addition, in order to apply lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake to Fuji Xerox’s future activities, it has added a new section describing its challenges and solutions, including examples of specific improvements.
Outline of Sustainability Report 2012
1. Top Commitment
To mark Fuji Xerox’s 50th anniversary, Tadahito Yamamoto, the president, looks back at the start of the company’s CSR management, and expresses his view that CSR is the basis of corporate management itself. He also reiterates his commitment to the next 50 years, as the company strives to become an excellent company that is trusted by society and customers.
2. Origin of CSR Management at Fuji Xerox
Fuji Xerox’s CSR management is based on the management philosophy of J.C. Wilson, president of Xerox Corporation when the firm was established. This section introduces his management philosophy which is the basis of modern CSR theory, along with the history of Fuji Xerox’s CSR management.
3. Highlights
This section introduces case studies of Fuji Xerox’s “glocal” projects to achieve CSR management on a more fundamental level.
Highlight 1: Thinking About Corporate Disaster Preparedness
How should companies work with local communities in the event of a natural disaster, which can happen at any time? This section describes what the presidents and executives of Fuji Xerox’s overseas sales companies learned through workshops in Miyagi and volunteer activities in disaster-affected areas, and how they used that experience in their respective countries.
Highlight 2: Early Traditions of Kyoto Come to Life
Fuji Xerox Kyoto Co., Ltd. uses its multifunction devices to faithfully reproduce ancient documents lying in old houses, shrines and temples for use in the modern age. This section outlines the background of this unique project by Fuji Xerox Kyoto to enable communication beyond time, the passions of those involved in the project, and the strengthening of ties with the local community.
4. Ongoing Initiatives
This section reports on Fuji Xerox’s ongoing initiatives for ethical procurement, curbing global warming, manufacturing products with zero landfill, and the company’s participation in and practices for the United Nations Global Compact.
5. CSR Initiatives by Our Affiliates Around the World
At Fuji Xerox affiliates in Japan and abroad, executives and employees are tackling issues in their local communities through CSR initiatives. This section introduces various initiatives under way at these affiliates.
6. Applying the Lessons of the March 2011 Earthquake to All Aspects of Our Business
This section lists Fuji Xerox’s weaknesses in responding to the earthquake and reports on the progress of efforts to utilize lessons learned in reviewing all its activities.
7. Status of Key CSR Initiatives
This section describes Fuji Xerox’s monitoring and reviewing system for CSR activities to reflect the needs of society, as well as its quantitative performance over the years.

Fuji Xerox’s Sustainability Report 2012 consists of a brochure and websiteNote1, which has a detailed Stakeholder Summary in addition to the brochure’s contents.
The brochure is issued in Japanese, English and ChineseNote2, while the website is available in Japanese and English. All pages support a voice browser for people with impaired vision.
