AMPAC Fine Chemicals LLC Receives Sixth Environmental Excellence Award
Friday 02. November 2012 - American Pacific Corporation (NASDAQ: APFC) announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary AMPAC Fine Chemicals LLC (AFC) has been awarded the Environmental Excellence Award for Green Chemistry / Green Engineering from the Industrial Environmental Association (IEA), Chemical Industry Council of California (CICC), and the California Manufacturers and Technology Association (CMTA).
Working in partnership with the State of California’s Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC) and our customers, AFC has been able to reclassify three of their solvent streams as recyclable materials. This has resulted in significant reductions in the use of virgin raw materials and generation of hazardous wastes. This achievement recognizes AFC’s dedication to Green Chemistry.
AFC is recognized as one of the leaders within California’s chemical industry for environmental sustainability. This recent award is one of six awards that AFC has received in the past five years associated with green chemistry and sustainable business practices.
Dr. Aslam Malik, President of AFC, said, “This award results from our continued focus on process improvements. Our goal is to improve our processes by increasing throughput, and reducing cycle time, emissions, raw material usage and waste, which in turn benefits the ‘triple bottom line’: environment, community and business performance.”
AFC has also recently been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy, as well as other national and international industry-based monitoring groups, for continuous reduction in energy consumption even with an increase in the pace of business operations.
The award was presented to Ashley Wong, AFC Environmental Engineer, by Jack Monger, President of IEA, John Ulrich, Executive Director, CICC, and Mike Rogge, Legislative Director, Environment Quality from CMTA.
