Feeder specialist BDT launches new product solution
Monday 29. October 2012 - · New media handling solution TIM (Tornado Integration Module) simplifies printing process · BDT product solution responses to the high demand for the at drupa presented Tornado Technology
The company BDT, that has become known through drupa and its Tornado Technology, expands its product range with a new module to handle different media in printing and post-press systems. The new media handling solution TIM (Tornado Integration Module) is based upon the patented Tornado Technology and meets increasing market requirements. Thanks to TIM the use of the Tornado Technology for substrate handling can be simplified and improved substantially. TIM offers customers the possibility to solve media handling requirements individually, fast and cost-effective just like a “Lego kit” for engineers.
BDT, so far only acting as OEM supplier, presented at drupa a world innovation, the Tornado Technology. Barely six month later and as answer to the overwhelming customer feedback BDT developed a solution for easy plug’n’play like integration of the Tornado Technology into existing or to be developed applications for example such as feeders. TIM the Tornado Integration Module meets the requirements of the market: more flexibility, the handling of different substrates, single sheet handling, reliability, optimizing of standstill and setup times, as well as automation. As a result TIM enables the integration of newest technology standards into different applications. The solution is designed as modular system and consists of the advanced tornado modules and a higher-level control unit inclusive operator software through which an easy configuration of customer specific applications are possible. Suitable parameters and adjustments can be chosen and used with a simple plug’n’play principle. If requested the control unit can be equipped with additional open interfaces and therefore be used as superior machine control unit.
Thus the advantages of the Tornado Technology for their users have made available in an easy way. Further advantages of TIM are a fast product launch on the market, cost optimization, less development expenditure and less needed resources. Thanks to this TIM as large-batch production technology can even be used for small to medium-sized quantities.
Through evaluation projects new products based upon the modular solution TIM will be developed. Currently BDT is in negotiations with many well-known manufacturers. Products such as feeder, stacker, sorter, alignment or transport applications in different markets such as printing, packaging or electronics are covered. The high demand for media handling solutions based on the Tornado Technology is looming worldwide: “The market requires a new standardized paper feeder that is faster, more reliable and more efficient compared to current vacuum based solutions. With the Tornado Technology and the Tornado Integration Module we are able to guarantee the handling of different substrates at minimal downtimes in such a feeder. And this fully automated. A world innovation, that even at drupa could only be seen at the feeder of the HP Indigo 10000 digital press. Together with HP Indigo we have developed this feeder successfully which sets new standards on the printing market. We can talk from a revolution”, explains Ralf Hipp, Manager of the Print Media Handling business unit at BDT.
The Tornado Technology makes use of a whirlwind effect to transport different materials such as paper, carton, plastic or foil gently, energy efficient and precisely. Not only manufacturers such as HP Indigo enthuse about this invention. Also E.C.H. will uses this technology in its book production application DCbook. “With our new solution TIM different machine manufacturers can profit from the Tornado Technology. TIM can be integrated easily and fast because the graphical user interface is designed easily and user-friendly as well as the modules can be installed in a simple way. Especially for manufacturers of digital printing machines the Tornado Technology is a high-quality alternative to existing vacuum technologies because it not only can be used for a variety of (print) media but also improves the overall functionality of digital printing machines regarding productivity and automation”, says Jürgen Weber, Product and Market Manager of the area Print Media Handling at BDT.
