Hexacomb honeycomb provides custom-solutions for a variety of protective packaging applications
Wednesday 26. September 2012 - Hexacomb, a BOISE company, is targeting European automotive, distribution, ceramics, hazmat/chemical and transportation/logistics markets as ideal channels for its honeycomb protective packaging structures.
Hexacomb, engineered into a proprietary honeycomb configuration, is made from renewable fibers. The product offers excellent strength, superior cushioning and blocking/bracing functions for a wide range of protective packaging and other applications
The ability to create custom die-cut structures to protect irregularly shaped components makes Hexacomb an ideal material for a wide variety of industrial applications, such as automotive and ceramic parts.
“As the most experienced supplier of honeycomb packaging material, Hexacomb offers decades of proven engineered solutions. Our customized industrial packaging solutions include die-cuts for all interior packaging challenges, as well as stacked shipping solutions utilizing Hexacomb dividers, bumpers and pallets,” said Eric Revet, sales director, Hexacomb Europe.
The company’s pallets, blocks, runners and top pads help secure and protect loads. Hexacomb is easily customizable to support distribution requirements, including international transport. Paper-based Hexacomb does not require export certification, unlike wood pallets.
Hexacomb pallets can handle loads of more than a metric tonne, making them ideal for supporting heavy forged parts such as electric motors and pumps. Additionally, there are no nails or wood splinters to puncture bagged items such as dry chemicals or bulk foods.
Another structural option from the company is CUSHION-COMB. It features honeycomb cells that have been precrushed to enable them to absorb repeated shock. This minimizes the transfer of “road shock” to products being shipped.
The combination of a proprietary production process and state-of-the art paper chemistry enables the new structure to produce consistently repeatable cushioning characteristics similar to those found in plastic foamssuch as polyethylene, polyurethane and polystyrenein a cost-effective manner.
“Hexacomb is an environmentally-responsible structure that can solve a wide variety of protective packaging requirements for a broad cross section of products,” Revet concluded.
