Appleton Launches New Direct Thermal Label Face Stock

Monday 17. September 2012 - Résiste 185-3.3's darker printed images and bar codes improve scanning and throughput for weigh-scale applications

Appleton, a world-leading producer of direct thermal paper, announces the addition of Résiste 185-3.3 to its portfolio of label face stocks.
Résiste 185-3.3 was developed specifically for retail weigh-scale label applications. Key attributes and benefits of the new thermal label face stock include darker images and barcodes when printed with retail weigh scale equipment, as well as improved scan rates.
Résiste 185-3.3 also provides faster cash register throughput and improved readability. The product’s increased resistance to mechanical scuffing helps labels remain legible and scannable when in contact with PVC wrap, packaging films and bags containing plasticizers or where labeled items are stacked in cold cabinets or store shelves.
Built on the performance strength of Appleton’s Résiste line of thermal face stock, with some of the cost-effective benefits of the Alpha 185 economy non-top-coated grade, Résiste 185-3.3 is ideal for grocery stores, small meat shops and deli counters.
“By applying the latest in thermal coating chemistry and technologies, Appleton can offer end users a high performing, cost-effective direct thermal product for retail weigh-scale label applications,” said Jason Steenbock, Appleton’s label segment manager for thermal products. “We are driven by market insights and understanding of customer needs, and the Résiste 185-3.3 was developed in response to those needs.”
Appleton’s leadership position extends beyond innovative products to environmental stewardship through lean and green manufacturing processes, environmentally responsible product designs and a history of forward-looking decisions.
Like all Appleton products, Résiste 185-3.3 does not contain BPA (bisphenol A). Appleton removed BPA from all of the company’s thermal paper products in 2006 out of concern for consumer safety after several studies linked BPA to health problems in people.
Appleton is one of a few paper producers with separate ISO 14001 certifications for its headquarters and research labs as well as its manufacturing locations. This independent, internationally recognized certification requires development and implementation of environmental management systems as well as annual third-party audits and three-year recertifications.
