Neenah Paper and Prooftag develop a new chaometric authentication solution based on paper

Friday 07. September 2012 - After one year of collaboration the two companies announce the launch of a new security solution for label converters with a visible security feature directly integrated to the paper.

Prooftag and Neenah Paper are proud to announce a break through innovation for the security label industry. Neenah Paper has developed a security paper specially designed for the manufacture of authentication tag relying on the chaometrics authentication principles developed and patented by Prooftag. This security paper integrates chaometric security features for converters to produce high security labels for their clients.
This cost effective security solution ensures that each label, tag or seal is unique with an individual fingerprint for authentication. A random fiber orientation in the paper media provides an accessible solution to problems of counterfeiting and forgery. Enabled by Prooftag’s visual authentication concept, this paper is now available to converters that want to offer an innovative security solution, along with many other possibilities for a smart label–such as track and trace and building of brand loyalty with customers.
That new security solution is designed for printers to enable web access for authentication by recording labels made on Neenah SecureTM authentication paper through the Prooftag LABELrec. This equipment has been specifically designed to permit the printer to handle the label registration process.
Each authentication Labels produced with Neenah SecureTM paper will be printed with a unique identifier, such as QR, 2D, or alphanumeric code. This code is matched with the random embedded fiber image, and the end user can verify the authenticity of the code and corresponding fiber image with a smart phone or other verification device along the supply chain. The fiber image and code are recorded at printing and stored for instant recall and comparison.
The fiber image and code can be validated at application and anywhere in the product lifecycle. Franck Bourrieres, Vice President Prooftag noted that the “Neenah SecureTM Authentication Label provides a cost effective security that is fully compatible with the production process of digital label converters.” Mr. Bourrieres also announced that Neenah Paper has been awarded the exclusive right to the Prooftag security system using embedded fibers in North America.
Prooftag and Neenah Paper are launching Neenah SecureTM Labels with the ProoftagTM Security System at Labelexpo Americas 2012 in Chicago, Illinois September 11-13. Representatives from
Neenah Paper and Prooftag will be meeting with printers, integrators and other stakeholders to develop unique solutions for brand authentication and document security using this new technology according to Gregory Burdick, Director of Label, Neenah Paper, Inc.
