Mutual Of Omaha: U.S. Olympic Swim Trials
Monday 09. July 2012 - Mutual of Omaha is a sponsor of the U.S. Swim team. As trials for the London Olympics are being held in Omaha this year, they wanted to use this event and opportunity to showcase their passion for their sponsored swimmers and the event itself. Super Color Digital has in the past done large scale building wraps for them. This year they wanted to create an even more dynamic atmosphere for their Dome and thus approached 3 companies for this assignment, Super Color Digital being one of them.
Objective:
To create an under water theme at the Mutual of Omaha building in conjunction with the US swim trials for the London 2012 Olympics. This included a unique design for the 90-foot wide glass Dome facility within the Mutual of Omaha building, one of the largest of its kind in the entire Midwest.
Implementation:
As we had delivered large scale graphics to Mutual of Omaha in the past, the client was confident that we were the ideal printing partners for this SuperUnusual and SuperChallenging project. Since this project required an intensive degree of design we brought in Jaguar Design Studio to bring our client’s vision to life.
We produced FabriWall structures, each portraying giant swimming pools, to compliment the Dome area. Due to the delicacy of the glass surface, hanging hardware was constructed to support the main center piece, which consisted of large, marvelous bubbles hanging from the ceiling to give the impression of underwater bubbles floating to the surface.
For the fountain at the center of the dome, we designed nuanced decals which gave the fountain floor the impression of the tile found in the world’s most celebrated Olympic pools. Wall graphics and auxiliary branding such as Banners and Stair Graphics for the tunnels and surrounding area helped to complete the experience.

Printing Solutions:
Our team of project managers, CAD designers, fabrication, production, and kitting and fulfillment crew worked for several weeks to complete the project on time. All graphics were printed primarily on our Vutek GS5000 and FabriVu printers. We printed several test rounds to check for graphic effects, but for the most part, the process was quite seamless!
Installation:
Super Color Digital coordinated the installation with the help of a local company. The installation for the Dome was personally supervised by our in-house production experts and was completed within 4 days.
Challenges:
The first challenge was to come up with the relevant concept. Once the design philosophy was crafted our next major challenge was to understand how to secure the hanging grid within the Dome.
